Since when was a 2-1 score Owned? The Canadians should be pretty unhappy with their perfomance, when they should have Easily had 5 or 6 goals...plus they got a couple extra calls and still couldn't capitalize over the ancient group of Americans with 4 of their best defencemen out due to injury.

A win is a win, but they will have to play a lot better than today in order to win the whole thing.

Canada owned and dominated period 1, USA dominated period 2 and 3 and wasnt able to tie. Esche was spectacular though.

The US was lucky to survive the first period, it should have been 4 or 5 - 0 at some point. We won that's the main thing and next up is Slovakia then the cherry picking commies. It does not matter how much you win by, all that matters is that you win the game.

Its not like you guys care about the rest of the world, this is quite obvious, but ice skating is usually reserved for little primary school kiddies trying to go for their first kiss, not grown men.

I think they lose on appearance though.....that wierd Yellow WAS straight out of 1920

that's figure skating f00l, that's not even a sport. Sorry but you wimpy Aussies will never learn about Ice Hockey and how damn difficult the game is and how dangerous it is, do yourself a favor and keep out.

Why do all the socalled 'tough' American sports require 85 layers of protective clothing along with helmets?

I reckon you could almost drop your average grid iron or ice hockey player out of a plane, and with all that gear on, they'd barely be hurt.

I don't think ice hockey, whats a simplistic boring game, is a sport either. I mean the kids that are usually the bomb on ice skates are the nerds with no friends with nothing else better to do.

remember that is your limited aussie view. Everyone skates in Canada and you are considered a gay if you don't know how to skate. Get it right spec, Americans are from America, Canadians are from Canada, they are two very different people and don't confuse them. It's like mixing up New Zealanders and Aussies, they are from two different countries. The padding used in Ice Hockey is so you don't get killed, remember that black puck is 6 oz of solid galvanized rubber, normally shot at nets with people in the way at speeds over 70mph. The padding helps you cheat death but injuries are common and you are not as protected as you think.

Missed the game because I was at work - but watched the highlights though. Awesome seeing Lemieux throwing around some punches - as much as I don't like him, glad to see him back And seeing Jovo leave the game - as a Canucks fan it kinda makes me cringe, hope he bounces back.

not all aussies are as ignorant as spec. A few appreciate that hockey is probably the most skillful and demanding sport played today. most hockey here though is played by expats from europe and canada, althoguh i think you'll find australia does hold the record for the largest victory margin in international hockey, 59-0 over NZ.

I know that most aussies are not as ignorant and closed minded as spec, that's nothing new. I don't expect that many countries to love the game anyway, it is largely a Canadian/European game. It is played in the states but not that many people watch it on television. It is largely played in cold climates during the winter, not much else to do besides drink beer and play hockey.

6 oz of solid rubbber? How scary.

And the way they squash each other against the walls, now that is tough.

I know canada and the us are different, they just fight like little brothers, and I always thought Canadians were like the little ugly cousin of the Americans.

But back on topic, tubby, get your hand off it. No-one players, or watches bloody ice hockey here, its probably the most undersupported hobbies in this country. I've watched many a game in Germany, and it bores me to tears. It is just so simple, and appears to take no skill, and apart from the basic 3 or so moves, nothing original happens.

It was a game designed because of the weather, and if the weather was better no-onw would even bother playing this game.

and no-one plays or watches handball here, but it's still one of the biggest sports in the world.
no-one plays? maybe it's not huge, but there is a national league, and a lot of in-house comps. Not to mention numerous roller hockey leagues.
skating around numerous fast moving obstacles that are trying to wipe you out must take some skill, to stick handle, pass and shoot at the same time rates pretty highly in sporting difficulty.

Would be very funny to watch you on skates and fall on your ass a couple times ... since it's "so simple".

Of course the funnier part would be when you go to the skate rental shop, you'd pick out figure skates instead of hockey skates.

It just seems to me like a sport, and I use that term very loosely, developed as a real afterthought.

Like, "we've got an ice rink and skates, now what sort of sport can we invent?". The sport didn't come from an awesome innovative idea.

I mean roller hockey leagues? That says it all.

And PhloTron, well, I can skate, but I got over it by the age of about 13, as I found much better ways to spend my time, and the weather allows more enjoyable activities in my spare time.

I'd be curious to know what sport you find to be from an awesome innovative idea? Seems to me most sports I play are summed up in the manner that you describe. Here's something, and somthing else...lets add this and viola....we have a new sport. And I've played about every sport there is...except women's field hockey.

I like football, I think that is rather innovative upon inception.

Hockey seems to steal some ideas from football anyway.
