Do you rate Matthew Dekay?

Can anybody offer an expert opinion into the finer details of this upcoming performance?

Is he hot, or not?

He's playing at an extremely smallish, not well known for hammering any trance at all, venue, usually reserved for more unknown acts.

I've only but heard some of his remixes, not so much of a live performance, but am keen to learn a little more.

Matthew Dekay gets intimate with Brisbane

Friday 10th September 2004

Matthew is currently the name on everyones lips, and is sure to impress. The Intimate party will be held at the Milk bar in Paddington on Friday 10th of September. Last year saw him shoot into the spotlight most notably behind "Beautiful Monday" and "If I Could Fly."

These two slices of progressive trance heaven saw heavy rotation for much of the year from the likes of Sasha to Danny Howells to Sander Kleinenberg, who went on to subsequently sign "Higher Thoughts" which received huge support from Pete Tong on BBC Radio One. The recent Dekay remix of The Beastie Boys "Intergalactic" and yet more singles such as "Move Yo" and "Symbiosis" have furthered Matthew's developments as the most promising talent to emerge from the Netherlands in recent times.

With a full local line up in support, spinning progressive house, breaks and funky beats, it's shaping up to be another big night - atmosphere guaranteed!

Venue: MilkBar, Caxton St Paddington

I'm certainly not an expert, but If I Could Fly is one of my favorite songs, and Beautiful Monday is nearly as good. I haven't heard any of his DJ or live PA stuff, but it sounds interesting. I think he's a really talented producer. It's nice to see a guy taking a genre that seems to be way up it's own ass, creatively, and trying to take it somewhere else.

We seem to be on a similar level on this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing him spin at a small, cozy venue, and this event hasn't even been advertised, not that anybody in Brisbane would have a clue who he is anyway...

Its always a question whether quality producers make awesome djs, quite a few argue this is not the case with PvD, but thats not worth the argument here.

Well, even if his mixing is techincally 100%, he should at least have good track selection. That would be my guess, anyway. See if you can dig up tracklists to any of his previous sets.

OK, coming from one of his biggest fans, yes I will claim that--he will put on a wonderful show. His productions are possibly the best and anything with his name attached to it will turn out a hit. Unless of course Markus remixes one of his songs . Anyways, his mixing is great and he has a great selection. He tends to play stuff from his labels, Lowriders, DK, etc...But they're all quality tunes. You are lucky to even go see him, He prolly won't be in the states for some time. Hope that helped.

Check out his Global DJ apperance from last year for an idea of what style he might drop. I was pretty happy with that show and his hour.

His productions are immense, if he can spin half as good he'd be worth going to see...

I knew there must have been someone such as yourself lurking, thanks.

I kinda found out about this gig by accident, its at a small venue, not anywhere near the usual edm clubs, and I haven't seen any publicity. Got a feeling I kinda found a little gold nugget.

Before I go see him I will for sure check out some of his stuff, so I can at least pretend to be a music snob, and if he is really good I'll even get the back of head autographed.

I saw him play at Scott Bond's new night Ahead back in July. I'd never heard of him and didn't really expect to like him but couldn't help myself. He really got the place rocking, me included!

Highly recommended.

Newest Songs:

Nikola Gala - Swing to Harmony (Matthew Dekay mix)
Mick Burns - See Me Fall (Dekay v Proluctors Trousy remix)
Austin Leeds v. Matthew Dekay - Taurus

Personal Fav's: He prolly won't spin them(too soft for a club)

Matthew Dekay - If I Could Fly
Matthew Dekay - Passion
Matthew Dekay - Monochrome
Matthew Dekay - Higher Thoughts (This is a club stormer, one of his best)

Well I can go on for days..

ive seen him DJ, he was ok, played about one trancey-proggy tune, the rest was rather dull techy prog and then some more "bangin" and funkier progressive which was much better but nowt amazing, unless thats ur cuppa tea.

Enjoy man. A small write-up of the set and your opinions would be appreciated by me at least, but if you dont have the time, no problem.
