just listened to it now, so here goes

mixing 6.5/10 - altogether most of your mixing was very good, there where quite a few tunes that where not 100% accurate and i actually though that your mixing was better in the first mix that i heard. still quality mixing though, but just needs a bit more practice.

tune selection 8/10 - really did enjoy all of the tunes. the only thing that i will comment on is the fact that i didn't really like that mix of communication, but that is all. really love tracks 8 and 11 as well.

flow 8/10 - think that the flow of this was alot better than your first mix. with this mix it gradually gets harder towards then end, which is a lot better imo.

altogher an improvement on your first mix, which is what this is all about, and i certainly enjoyed it. keep up the good work, and just try and get your mixing so it is 100% perfect all of the time. thanks again for posting your mix and letting me hear it. ian

Thanks Ian. I took some of the pointers you gave me for the first mix and used them in this mix. I feel that I am getting better with each mix I do. Thanks again for taking your time.

Any time, man . The track selection does look pretty good. Btw, if you're not busy I also have a mix I'm trying to get feedback on. So far all the responses I've gotten have been very very positive, but it was never anything really in depth for a response. It's a few posts down.

Read This!

hey Marc

I took a listen earlier, and here are some of my thoughts. DISCLAIMER: I come off as really blunt, pessimistic, negative, etc. I figure that it's best to emphasize things to work on than really give a fair assessment (meaning, that the mix is probably better than I made it sound).

Mixing - Your mixing was a little bit shaky throughout. You pulled out of a trainwreck at about the eighth track or so rather well, though. I noticed many times that you started to have the beats off right as you were bringing a track in and then quickly corrected it. Um....also when things started to go off, often you didn't start to correct it until the beats were clearly off. Maybe one thing that would be good would be to learn to ride the pitch control a little bit. If it starts to go crackers correct it as soon as you can. You may end up with mixes with one track slightly ahead of the other then vice versa then the first one again...etc for a little while, but you'll eventually get the hang of it.

Also, on almost every transition you were coming in too loud with the highs and you were probably leaving the bass up throughout the mix on occasion because there was a lot of bassline cancellation as the waves were destructively interfering. This could be simply a problem with your mixer, and it's really tough to get to where your basslines don't cancel out anymore. It's something you have to learn with practice.

Track Selection/Programming - It's not exactly my cup of tea throughout but there were some nice choices. The Alphazone track was really nice as well as Sunday Afternoon. Your finishing track was good. I think that the first track might go on too long. Could you bring it earlier and have it sound ok? Just a thought. The next one I'm not sure adds that much to the set. In terms of programming your best moments were track 4 going into 5. You could have made it even better by either choosing a different track 6 or skipping that one entirely and going into the Alphazone track. All that could probably be pushed back two tracks or so since I think that Sunday Afternoon and the Alphazone tracks make good tracks forthe peak of your set. Honestly, the best thing I've found helping me construct sets is listening to old symphonies, especially Mahler and Beethoven's. Just try to pick up on how they develop themes.

Overall, not a bad effort at all. I'm sure you've already improved substantially by now. Keep up the good work.
