just listening now mate. sounds good so far. if its anything like second form, its going to be amasing

Posted by djianthomas on Sep-02-2004 13:03:

very very nice mate. i dont think that it is qiute as good as second form, but still really really good. i would definately play this in one of my sets.

the only one critism (and it is very very small) is the last few seconds of the track sounds a bit flat like it just goes into having no layers at all. i know that when it is being mixed into another tune, you wont be able to hear it, so it doesnt really matter, but i do think there should be some tiny layers there.

do know if u understand what i am trying to say as when i read it back i cant really get at what am trying to describe, but anyway. keep up the good work. ian

ps with producers like u, this section should no longer be called "ameateur" in my opinion

Wow I'm impressed!!

Even though I'm listening to this with a really crappy pair of headphones I can still hear the quality of that tune.

The title of the tune defiantly fits, love the structure of this How everything just builds step by step, layer by layer.

Love the sounds you got going there, massive bassline. And those female choirs really add a lot to the overall atmosphere.

This is by far your best tune so far IMO, your getting better and better each time I hear something new you come up with.

Keep up the good work!

Good stuff.

I liked your other called Hive, but this one is much better imo. The synths are great, and the nice atmosphere in it makes the whole difference. I like the bassline as well, but I think you need to work a little bit on the hats, it feels like they are just filling up empty space, and they're not really that great.

Overall, great track. You're really improving m8!

Thanks heaps for listening guys!

djianthomas - glad you like flatline! i wasn't going to pm you about this one because i think it says in your profile you don't like floaty / vocal trance ... so i didn't think it would be your cup of tea. once i did this song i realised that my own heart lies in more of the driving up-front tunes too, so stay tuned bro!

dj-kreing^^ - thanks heaps! it means a lot coming from you. you pointed out that my last tune needed more work on arrangment, so I tried to practice that a lot more for this tune. btw. when are you going to put up your version of One Last Dream? Really looking forward to it.

m1cro5lave - thanks to you too! i think you caught me out - my percussion skills really are bad, you hit that right on the nail. but thanks a lot for pointing it out, you never know what part of your skills that need to be improved ( usually all ) actually stand out to people as the most obvious. I will definitely be working hard on getting percussion right in my next tune.

thanks for all your comments! and don't mind me if i sound all excited ... i just got back from seeing above & beyond ... very very good!

Posted by Massive84 on Sep-04-2004 07:49:

nice start with all these synths.

bassline is good,

1.44 hihat sound a bit supressed(lofi) all the perc are tbh. just give them a bit more room.

breakdown to short for my taste, pads are nice though.

gets a bit repetative after.

you used those Doru vocals nicely, synths sound ok i didn't feel it had really an actuall hook to look forword to, which made the tune repetative
work on the perc mixing aswell, not much just slightly few volume tweaks i think.

thats it mate

Well I actually did open a thread about it, not many people seem to be interested though…

Thanks for listening Massive84! I definitely agree about the hihats, i overdid the step-filter and will probably go back and make it more subtle.
But what do you mean by all the perc are tbh? I'm still trying to work that one out ...

DJ-Kreing^^ - can't believe I missed it! I've listened to it now and posted some feedback in your thread. Nice tune!

Hiya pho ma
I finally get to review one of your tracks!

Intro
-massive bass
-massive beat
-love the *bleepen* rythme

1.20 love the angels & the duel rythme
1.45 yerrrr hihat kicks it. beautitful. doesn't flat on my grado sr225s!!

2.25 where is this taken me??
---> 2.52 oh I see. The new bass is great. I love this......

4.15 layered with the angels again. This time it has alot more charm! Simply beatiful in all its kickassery!

The electronic strings come in & say hello at 2.30 for a bit until 2.53. They then come back from 3.35 until 6.00 - A little too long for my tastes (repetitive). I would change the sounds to them- maybe do some extreme frequency movement; but that's just me

This is simply a magnificent production. 1000 stars man!

Peter

hey mate this is a nice track and def gets my vote. Everything to me sounds pretty well balanced and mixed. It has that fast paced beat and hihats yet along with a 'chill-out' melody which imo sounds a bit like solarstone or estuera work - nice!

Sounds like a real nice track to me. I love the small female vocals in the track, somehow they seem familiar...

I do think it's a bit of a pity it never seems to reach a real climax... I always like this in a track. The sound of the hihat was bothering me a tiny bit as well, though that's peanuts really. My thought is that a softer hihat would give it a more subtle drive. Overall mix sounds well mastered so far.

Keep it up!
Wim

i kinda like it, but i think i recognize that melody from somewhere, i don't have an idea where but from somewhere

Posted by pho mo on Sep-06-2004 12:30:

BIG THANKS to Dorumalaia for the vocal samples! They added a lot to the tune.

Thanks for listening, xenocreator, andy sevil, lightworks and montana!

xenocreator - I tried for a while to get some inspiration w.r.t the strings, couldn't work out anywhere for them to go Maybe once I've gotten a bit of distance from the tune, I'll be able to fix them up. Filter movement sounds like an excellent candidate.

Good point about the hats, Lightworks, I'll definitely try a more subtle sound and see what that does.

Thanks for your feedback guys! It's really appreciated

argh, really? i guess that's either really bad (subliminal plagiarism), or really good (original but familiar).

any other comments, tips on production etc?

Posted by Mike_Foyle on Sep-08-2004 12:20:

this sounds phat as phuck, cant believe i missed it! i swear ive used that kick in one of my tunes before hehe. synths are very good. as are the vocals. where did you say they were from? i need some vocals urgently in this kinda of style! pm me? This is really top notch. i like it man

Posted by Jay M on Sep-08-2004 16:04:

This sounds a bit lofi despite of the 192 kbps quality, dunno why. I think there's too much mid on the synths. Vocal sample is sweet tho. I like the melody in this one, very peaceful sounding. I'm not at all fond of the kick in combination with the percs and clap, like I said it feels low fi. Percs could use some variety as well, maybe work on that. I like the theme in this one a lot.

Good luck!
-Jay

Hey Pho-Mo,

This track keeps me interested from start to finish. Only the most well thought out tracks really do that IMO. Sounds are awesome, especially the strings/pads. I don't really listen to much vocal trance so the samples aren't familiar. Just really great stuff.

Posted by Lew.D on Sep-09-2004 05:35:

wow, really pro sounding track here.
lovin the plucky synths with that beautiful stereo delay
yummm........ recluse ish
top vocal work... fits very nicely over the top, which the stereo and volume automation only capitalise.

overall great melodic piece with great mastering
great work champ

Posted by pho mo on Sep-10-2004 07:36:

Thanks heaps for listening!

Mike Foyle - glad you liked this one, it's probably no surprise that you've heard the kick before ... it's from the 59 powerful kicks pack that was posted on TA fairly recently. The vocals, as I said before, are from one of Dorumalaia's sample packs. Thanks again Doru!

Jay M - will take your comments into consideration, I may go back and try a different clap, and lay off a bit on the filtering on the percs.

Thanks for the constructive feedback everyone!

Posted by Pete_B on Sep-10-2004 12:21:

That kick is breaking my speakers lol

This whole track is very good, quite PHAT indeed. I would like to see that hand clap a bit louder tho.

Tight work, very tight.

Posted by soundrush on Sep-15-2004 14:45:

man... very good tune

bassdrum sounds great and offers a solid feel to the tune. the clap rocks. hats and stuff sound very good, too. vocal is wicked. melody isnt very memorable altough it works and sounds quite trancy to me.

overall this tune sounds very sophisticated. all those little effects make it sound very complex.

Posted by pho mo on Sep-17-2004 06:06:

Pete B - well it's probably a good thing, you needed new speakers anyway lol I'll buy you a new pair. And I'll work on the clap, maybe it'll break your new speakers...
soundrush - glad you liked it, thanks m8!

Posted by optik on Sep-17-2004 08:56:

nice and loud to start off with, you get some real kick on that kick matey =)

I'd stick a 1/8d delay on the bassline, to bang it out into the stereo field

there is something slightly wrong with the background rolling snare sound, seems just slightly out of time to me (it comes in at exactly 1:16) - other than that I like the way the percs build.

slightly disturbing the way it cuts at 2:26

like the bit at 3:06, yet that perc sound is still disturbing me a little

at 3:40, it's building to be a nice track - not sure you need the break at 2:26, just let it keep on building and building.

getting into this now, which is good and bad - cause the section through 4:40 should have been in the track way earlier; structurally, it's probably a good idea to have the best part of the track come in at around 3:00.

has the potential to be really nice, justneeds a bit of re-structuring, and maybe some extra subtle effects thrown in here and there - and sort out the timing on that perc.. =)

cheers

Optik
