Anyone like Frou Frou? (warning: not trance)...
hey people,
so after watching Garden State and subsequently buying the soundtrack...i discovered this artist Frou Frou...which is fantastic. i would have to describe it as Bjork vs Dido in style. so if you like either of those artists...i'd put money on you liking this chick. its good stuff...check it out if you don't know who i'm talking about. and for those of you that saw garden state...you'll recognize the song immediately
so anyone else like this chick?
haven't heard any of her original works but i do like the watkin's mixes of breathe in...
i haven't heard any remixes yet, but i'm really digging the originals...that's what i've been playing in my car lately hehehe...
I have not watched this movie but I have heard many good things of the use of this song in the trailer.
I like Imogen Heap's voice. Her songwriting and production partner in this, Guy Sigsworth, is a man I admire because of his eclectic approach to pop music. He believes in the power of catchy melodies and riffs but has an interesting take on sound design as you can hear -- and he has quite a few inquisitive ideas regarding the future of "pop music" as well. Interesting that you note Bjork, because Guy has also collaborated with her, and Madonna, and Britney.
I really, really enjoyed Frou Frou's version of "Holding Out For a Hero" on the Shrek 2 soundtrack.
Fantastic interview with GS from awhile back... it is technical but has some choice quotes, like:

| "...And so I think with any new technology, you're always looking for the errors or the flaws or the idiosyncracies of the thing, the accidental properties that might turn out to be features. After all, guitar distortion is a mistake, but it's one that we now can't live without. |

I haven't heard her sing but the fact you put 'warning: not trance' in the thread title made me laugh!

kinda new agey to me
Frou Frou - Let Go
mint
Yes...I love Frou Frou. I have the Details album. It's really good.
"Detials" is one of my favirote albums. I don't have many favirote album's (five including "Details").
I don't think a remix could do justice to any original production of theirs. There has been some, but not one to match up to original's.. At least not yet. The album still holds five stars on amazon as well as being acclaimed criticly since it's release.
Last time I heard, they were planing on putting some material which didn't make it onto the album on i-tunes. I heard a clip of "Deal With It", one of those. Definitly will be purchasing the other's when they're out.
Only other original material of them together out at the moment is "Close Up" which can be heard on the "Breath In" single and "Holding Out For A Hero" which is on the Shrek 2 soundtrack.
Hope I could be some help.

yeah somehow i knew you'd like it jay hahaha. and i'm loving that whole details album...good stuff. i'll have to keep an eye out for that other stuff you mentioned
Details was a great album. I saw them live and was really impressed with their show. I've recently heard a 1 or 2 new tracks from them... hopefully a new album will be coming out
I peeped Let Go awhile back and saw the movie Garden State today. I highly recommed the track and watching the movie. The track reminds me of earlier Smashing Pumpkins material.

I was hooked on "Must Be Dreaming" for a while, never really got much into the rest of their stuff though. The one chick in it is pretty hot in some of her older pictures though.
I love Frou Frou
Guy made couple tracks with seal and britney spears
i remember him being in a sound on sound mag

There was a thread on this before, but I don't feel like looking it up.
To me they sound a bit like Dido (which can't be bad
). I only really like a few of their tunes, the rest are average. After hearing the remix of Hero I wasn't expecting much from them, but Breathe In, Shhh, and Let Go are all great tracks. I like the original Breathe In the best, most of the remixs screw with the voice, or don't hold the vocals and the melody together, they just both go running off in different directions.
i'm a huge fan of their cd, had it since probably april or so
and even besides the main few obvious choons on the cd (breathe in, let go, shh), i really love every single other one
try psychobabble for instance, i've rarely heard such a creepy song done so well
i think they're just amazing at taking one single emotion and capturing it aurally
and let go was already one of the most amazing songs i knew, then seeing it in garden state, man it made me want to cry (song was on heavy play during my most recent breakup)
i'd recommend Details to anyone and everyone
I only know the Watkins vocal remix of Frou Frou - Breathe in, when ben lost played it some time, and I really like it... but I haven't heard anything original, so i can't really comment
Never heard of Frou Frou before, but according to what everyone is saying I might have to check it out.. I'll get back on it.

Managed to listen to pieces of 'Details' online, and I must say I like it, I'll be on the lookout for it in the shops, otherwise.. online ordering.
I must agree with the Dido / Bjork mixture remark, though it's not as experimental as Bjork has been lately. It's a pretty easy listen, but that's what I have been looking for..
Not too fond of 'Holding out for a hero' though, I won't miss it on the album
