I had this done a few weeks ago but I wanted to remaster it before posting. So now it's finished and I really need some feedback to this one.

cool track, nice sounds, beautiful breakdown

dude WOAH BREAK! Strings, flute, woooaah that is calm as fuck man. kick is much better in this one, bass also, altho bass still sounds quite verby. synths and mixing etc are spot on. really fuckin good man

great track, amazing mastering (atleast for me ) everythink sounds very profesional
keep up with great work

Posted by Massive84 on Sep-09-2004 16:10:

great kick and bass..

0.32 arp sound on the cheap side if it is allone.

1.00 starts to to kick in.

1.26 i prefer the arp there with the other sounds.

1.53 mint wind fx.

cool pads but they are to thin for me.(my taste pads must have huge reverb.)

that saw doesn't do alot to me.

second break is really nice.

few taste issues, produced great though.

Good one. It could have been better, because that main melody isn't really something... Well produced though..

Another nice one man

Posted by Jay M on Sep-10-2004 02:41:

Cheers guys, lots of taste issues indeed. But I'm very thankful for the comments and will use m!

Keep m coming!

The melody is not too surprising, bur this one is nicely produced. I agree tot the fact that the (pan)flute is a nice addition to the buildup, but the flute itself sounds a bit cheap to me.

I love your bass & kick, however.

Love the drums and that bass! I'll say right now before I can any further - the delay you have used on the bass, if you can, try to use a low eq cut (just on the delay) as this would help the clarity even more!

Ok, some nice atmospheric pads going on here, percussion and arpeggios are all flowinh nicely. Love the sounds you've used here, good synth programming. Nice breakdown, its kept short and 'to-the-point' which I like

Could maybe do with an extra synth layered on top of the melody to give the track some PHATness, oh we have, nice one!

Well m8, a really nice track this is, has a wicked vibe to it.

Hi there Jay mate! Long time no hear so here goes!

Gonna start with the positives!

+ High end - love that high end!
+ General EQ layout is good
+ Good patches if a little bit dry at times
+ Love the idea of the whistle noise, think that's got a lot more potential still left - more space on it would really make it feel special - that kind of stuff in tunes makes them
+ Nice mellow vibe

Your high end work is impressive to hear, that is definitely one of your strong points in my eyes. Reminds me very much of Photon Project at the breakdown. Presence as an overall tune is very much there too.

Don't like the way the rhythmic chord pattern you've got going on takes up so much of the space, it's kind of a carrier sound but seems to be a bit too big for it to be that.

Tunewise it's good, but not as distinctive as some of your other tunes.

First thing that jumps out straight away is the overemphasised low end to my ears, it makes the kick sound weak. Specifically, your bass seems too big in the spectrum without enough distinction in it. Maybe a different kick too would help. Sounds like you've gotten the beef through a multiband compressor as opposed to getting it in the first place. Sounds to me like you're very close to it though, just a more distinct bass (maybe through EQ) and bit beefier kick.

Don't like the clap either - it's too diminished and dry in the mix for my taste and a bit too panned. It doesn't "fit" at the moment IMO.

I'm gonna get your remix and review that too cos I haven't heard your stuff for ages.

EDIT: Nice synth work in this - I'm listening again. Again, just feel that low end drowns out slightly some of the other details in there.

BassAngel you're my hero! Thanks a million dude!

Posted by .A.Y. on Sep-12-2004 10:47:

heh darude also have track called "calm before the storm"
at start i thought its some remix on it

bass is nice but i think you should remove the delay\reverb on it

percs are cool but too dry and also they are too much panning to the right & left

clap is nice but i think you should make him a little weaker and remove his reverb

melody is cool

the production needs more work..

loved the melody at 4:12

you put a compressor on the master channel?
cauze if yes you should remove him
he make some sounds shake

overall nice & chilly track

Cool

the way your music is progressing is really impressing me mate, personally i find it fits really well together, just the panflute kinda thing in the break sounds a bit out of place, maybe a piano would work better. there also seems to be quite a bit of distortion, sounds like its coming from the low end

Posted by Jay M on Sep-13-2004 14:04:

Thanks guys!

@Luke: Time for me to buy a new speaker set. The low end is like hell to me lol. (Hard to make it right)

Speaker set? try headphones, i use them to produce with, very good for detecting stuff like bass and hi ends (where i got wrong sometimes) - just a suggestion mate to try and help you.

Anyways, back to the review...

Kick is punchy, bass is a bit bassy like, percussion sounds fine!. bringing in the synths now, doesent sound cheesy at all, i like the pluck synths. Another synth in now with pads, a phatter 303 sound which is still working.

Breakdown is great, the use of effects to bring it in sound great. I like the flute thing, very nice indeed. i like the plucked sawave that comes in.

Good stuff, nice and melodic.

Keep it up mate!

Terry

Personally I love the bass-end in this one, plus the pads melody(?) is great. Nice bells + flutes too.
What I think is great about this tune is the way the song as a whole sounds like a voice, it is talking to me : what I mean is, it's got character. I think it's probably because the arrangement is excellent. Woah - convoluted way to say that
Nice work!

Posted by Jay M on Sep-15-2004 21:56:

@ Terry : Yeh I have headphone but the bass isn't really good from them as well, i hardly hear it. Really new speakers needed. Does a PC surround give a good low-freq image......? (guess not but how bad is it?)

@ pho mo: well it's for sure a compliment, my tracks are supposed to have character! thanks m8!
