Smiley DJ SF: Armin Van Buuren @ Ruby Skye 9/17

just wondering if anyone on here is planning to, and also for anyone that's been there before, does Ruby Skye have a dress code? it seems a bit more fancy than either 1015 or Mezzanine so i'm thinking they probably do, anyone fill in that blank for me? thanks. n.n

Dunno

Never been to Ruby Skye myself, but I hear the dress code's a bit more strict than 1015 or Mezzanine. I'd say just wear a nicely pressed collared shirt, slacks and some nice shoes. And you'll be good. Looking forward to this awesome night. Getting my paycheck tomorrow so I'll be preordering my tickets in a little bit. ASOT VS GDJB!

Smile Tongue

damn dress codes. i'll have to hunt for my 'nice' shoes and hope they don't kill my feet trying to dance in them all night.

i went there for tiesto in june and saw a decent number of ppl wearing jeans and sneakers...so as long as they see armin the same as tiesto (both huge acts) i dont think theyd be THAT strict

Posted by dj nekomancer on Sep-11-2004 09:55:

Thumbs up

oooh good to hear. well, if push comes to shove, i'll try to get in with jeans and sneakers, if they say no, i'll just keep a change of clothes in my car or something.

I went there in June to see Tiesto as well. I wore Jeans and a nice top. I saw a lot of guys that night with jeans and tee-shirts on. They had no hassles getting in at all.
I just wanted to warn you though. I never danced with such a rude bunch of of people as I did that night at RS. I was getting pushed and shoved all night long. People would walk threw with out saying anything. When I went to go take pictures the assholes in front of me yelled at me! Also if you dance in the front there is a huge AC system right there; and it got COOOOLLLLDDDDD! Even when the club was uber packed.
Other then that RS is a really nice venue!

Posted by dj nekomancer on Sep-12-2004 18:52:

oooh very good to know, thanks sweetcandy. n.n ugh sucks about the rude people though. i guess nicer place doesn't always equal to nicer people. constant AC doesn't sound too bad compared to Mezzanine, who has the nitrogen 'smoke' machines which are really cool, but they stop using it after a certian hour it seems. ah well, such is an imperfect world.

Posted by fupaking on Sep-12-2004 19:40:

RS dress code used to be more strict back in the day. After the dot-bomb, well let's just say, RS has lowered their standards, but the "dress code" sorta remains in effect. Meaning, they can use it as an excuse to boot you out of line, but I haven't seen in happen in a long time. I doesn't hurt to bring nicer clothes just in case though. I'm hoping with Armin and Markus headlining, it will bring out a good crowd and all the TAs. (Shocking to believe, but very big name DJs like Tiesto and Oakenfold tends to bring an out an annoying element sometimes.) Also, it's summer here, and being near Union Square, expect some tourist and bridge and tunnel element.
The funniest shit is when you see a bachelorette party roll through...and you got to be wondering if they have any clue who Armin or Markus is! Oh and watch out for the late-night trannie invasion LOL! I've seen many clueless guys fall for that. LOL!

I'm just hoping for extra speaker stacks are added like there were for Tiesto, otherwise the existing soundsystem has no boom. Also lazers wouldn't hurt either.

Overall RS is one of the nicer venues in the city. There's a main stage (which, during Tiesto they were letting people up on, and I got great up close pics), then the dance floor with two bars in the side, VIP in the back, then an upstairs u-shaped balcony with a little more room to dance, a bar, and more VIP, then in back of that a smallish lounge, and medium sized smoking room with pool table, etc. It gets VERY smoky in there, so if you're adverse to smoke, I'd stay out.

Anyways, I'll be there with several friends!

cool, maybe i'll bump into you on the dance floor then.

Posted by fupaking on Sep-13-2004 04:32:

Just yell out "Who's the FUPA King?" several times and you'll be sure to find me

The "tranny-spotting" (I just made that one up) is still entertaining nonetheless!

regardless, y'never know in SF with the whole tranny thing.

Well, if some of you peeps are gonna make out to RS this Friday night, maybe we can meet up with each other by describing what we're going to wear for the venue? Worth a shot I'd say. Worked pretty well for me when I went to see Sasha at Mezzanine. I'll be wearing black slacks, a blue collared shirt, and I might bring either photons or glow sticks with me. Not sure yet.

Just got this in email:

Friday, September 17th: Syd Gris opens for Armin Van Burren and Markus Schultz at Ruby Skye! Whooo. That sounds official, because it is. Comed early (9:00pm-10:30pm) to hear Syd's debut at Ruby Skye as he opens for the number 3 ranked DJ in the world, Dutch sensation Armin Van Burren, presented by Spundae.

so 9pm Syd, 10:30 Markus. My guess is Armin sometime between 12 and 1. Though my guess closer to 12 as Tiesto wass. RS closes usually some time between 3 and 4...it will depend on how crowded it is and how many overpriced waters and red bulls they're selling by the time Armin is done with his set.

This is great since I didn't want to miss Markus and I have a bday dinner in the evening! yay![

Be Cool!

i agree with everyone about the dress code at RS. i've personally never seen anyone get kicked out of line, but then again you see a lot of people dressed up more than they would for ten15/mez. i've worn a long sleeve t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers before(for oakenfold... disappointing), but have been wearing shirt, jeans, and nice shoes the last couple of times i went. better to be on the dressy side. ultimately, i don't think it would matter.

for those of you who haven't heard armin live, you're in for a treat. see y'all there.

Posted by DaveT on Sep-14-2004 23:06:

On huge nights, they don't tend to really care about the dress code...I have been there on nights where they are picky, though.

I would just wear casual Friday night.

Dave

Set times:

Syd Gris: 9:00pm - 10:30pm
Markus Schulz: 10:30pm - 12:30am
Armin van Buuren: 12:30am - closing

So epect Armin to come on at like 1am, cause headliners are rarely on time!!! ;p

i'll most likely be there in either a button up vertical blue and white shirt or blue and white polo shirt, and blue jeans. yes, i like my blue. XD i might bring my photons too but not sure yet.

oh, how's the parking around there too? i'll prolly be packed in a car with friends but just want to make sure we don't park on the street and get a ticket because of street cleaning and what-not.

and yes, as koolaid said, AVB rocks live. last time i saw him was new years eve at 1015. that was hands down the BEST NYE of my life, no contest. =3

Posted by DaveT on Sep-16-2004 06:16:

The a parking garage a block away. Will cost you like $12

Mmmm, photons. You should especially give Dave a light show. We all know how much he loves those things.

Parking damn! I forgot this isn't the 1015. Usually I just park in the alleyway near 10th street, but obviously this isn't gonna work for RS. So I take there aren't any spare alleys that we could just "borrow" for the night?

So what are the details for meeting up beforehand? Is there a pre-party? Any chance AVB or Markus will hang out with us beforehand?

Posted by fupaking on Sep-17-2004 18:18:

As far as I know, there is no official pre-party or meetup!

Unfortunately, due to personal matters, I won't be able to make the gig here in SF tonight. Yes, I'm bummed, but much more important things are at hand.

There was discussion of a meetup with Armin and Markus in SF, but at the time I was being told Markus was going to be on when Ruby Skye opened at 9pm, which means that the meetup would have had to take place at like 6pm or 7pm, which is just too early for a Friday night in SF w/ most people spread out everywhere, traffic getting into the city, etc...so it never really materialized.

I will make the LA gig tomorrow night, though.

Dave
