Its getting old. There have been lots of more recent disasters that take priority over 911. How about a minute of silence for all those poor russian kids that died when some retards decided it would be a good idea to hold up a school.

How does tributing something get old?

A Tribute is a rememberance.

Sure i am all for a tribute to that horrible disaster in Russia, on it's anniversary.

Everything gets old after a while. Its been 3 years, about time to forget and move on with your lives. If someone wants to remember , thats fine, but let him do it quietly. No need to open possible old wounds for anybody else right.

I lost 3 friends that day
Chris Mello
Ward Hanes
Teddy Maloney

Are you telling me to forget them and move on?

No i disagree with you. I think these are exactley the type of things we need to remember. A tribute to the honor and misfortune of the innocent lives lost that day is a positive thing, not negative.

What you are saying is typical anti-American rhetoric. People who hold American in contempt for the world's problems almost always undermind 9.11 and say there are far worse atrocities that should be remembered. But no trajedy, whether it be 9.11, Russian children, Rawanda etc) should be forgotten - they are equally horrific events that affect countless people.

Until it hits home, people will know how it feels. God forbid anymore of this anywhere though

Yep, that's how it usually goes.

No need to dishonour their memory, right? Why don't you let them rest in peace?

The problem with your "tribute"-thread is that is draws forth some lives as more important than others, and that is why you are probably going to have a hard time drumming up enthusiasm.
Why didn't you make a thread on the anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan? Or Iraq? Didn't the loads of people killed in those places warrant a mention from you?
I have a very negative impression of you, so maybe I am wrong on this one, but so far you seem to be very much a person who values US lives (and even comfort) much higher than the well-being of people in the rest of the world. I am (of course) ready to be corrected by a clear-cut link.
But if I am right, then please go away.

How is remembering them dishonouring them?

This isn't my thread...someone else made one and it got closed. All i did was re-post one and ask "WHY" his got closed. So this thread is not a tribute per se.

How does remembering a trajedy on it's anniversary date make it that some lives are more important then others. With your logic why have funerals, birthdays and/or any rememberances or anniversarys of any sorts. Because ulitmatly they are all tributing to one or a selected group of individuals and excluding countless others.

Again this is NOT my thread..i am just curious as to why his got closed.

And i agree that all innocent lives lost should be tributed.

You ask if they warrant a mention from me? I guess they do. The innocent should always be remembered.

But your statement is quite absurd. Why is when an American wants to remember an American trajedy (9.11, Pearl Harbor etc) they also have to recount every other life lost at the hands of the American government. Yet on the flip side if an Iraqi came in here and posted a rememberance to his fallen neighbors you would not demand the same from him? Patently absurd.

You are judging me on my past posts in my first years on TA. Which i agree were very close-minded and quite pathetic. However i have changed my views on the world and regard ALL life as equal...so ling as it is innocent life. For example here is something i did which most people who know me on here would not beleive. When Iran had that huge earthquake months back and something like 25,000 people died...i threw a fit to everyone i knew how it was barely even mentioned in American media yet 9.11 was tlaked about for so long...i was really pissed about that...and still am...so i have changed....

i am still for the war though....

I hate this political correct crap. Just because someone wants to remember a day that is important in their country they have to remember every event from every country in the world? Thats just absurd.

Sorry but 9/11 hits home to Americans more, because we live here. We don't know what is happening in Rwanda firsthand or Sudan. If there is a Sudanese man or a Russian who wants to put forth memory for those lost in the school tradgedy we wouldn't hold anything against them.

And about it getting old, we do this so we DON'T FORGET, thats the whole point. You want this moment burned in your brain so you know what it feels like and it never happens again. Maybe you need someone to drive up to your house and blow your family up for you to understand.

Geez if people don't like the thread then don't read it and let it die out, locking it was just wrong.

Posted by razmataz on Sep-11-2004 03:00:

Either way, Im sure there are better ways to remember lost ones (be it 9/11 or any other tragedy) than by posting messages on an anonymous board.

Ya only you Americans know how it feels.

If u really care about innocent people that have died perahaps there should be a memorial for all of them not Just people form 911.

The thing that doesn't make it anonymous (and also what causes so many conflicts on this board) are the little flags below are names and our locations.

Couldn't agree with you more.

There's so much anti-American sentiment it's pathetic.

Little do people realise that the imperialism that these people say that the US is fostering is under the direction of the Crown.

The last time the forums had the most people on it was on March 11th 2004. The day of the Madrid bombings. Prior to that it was either the 1 or 2 year anniversary of September 11th.

No kidding. Perhaps the rest of the world is sick of hearing about our Sept. 11 remembrance. Perhaps they simply shouldn't listen.

Between my father and I, we knew 11 people. I knew two who where friends of the family. My father knew 9 people, most from his high school in NYC.

They had families, wonderful lives, and left their wives, husbands and kids to do one thing. Go to work. They didn't sign their lives away that morning. They were just being Americans and doing their jobs.

So please, don't ever give anyone shit for remembering Sept. 11. Because I remember those people all of the time, and the thousands of families without a mother, father, sister, or brother remember those people every single day.

A co-worker of mine had to forcefully retire a few years early because his son Brian Monaghan died in his 20's at the WTC.

Brian senior was one of the better co-workers I have ever known. I wish him God speed and goodluck and hope he will do good minus 1 less son.

maybe a thread which contains "9/11 tomorrow for those of us in a time zone ahead of the continental US. Just remember to dedicate a moment of silence for those tomorrow!" is better suited to the American forums. It doesn't contain any debate / politics just a tribute that Americans will appreciate, while the rest of the world can deal with their own problems (i wonder what remembrance day it is in Chile on 9/11 )

this thread on the other hand is perfect for the forums, it contains insults, americans, debauchery, noobs, scandel and mustard

for the record: it's the "11th of September" "11/09" get your ISO standards right silly americans

Oh man...heres another person implying we should forget about 9.11 because of Chile. Why must someone have to ackwoledge every other trajedy before they do their own?

And who are you calling a n00b? Your join date is only a few months from the newest member in this thread...pot calling the kettle black...on that token i can call you a n00b...because you are to me.

Don't worry how we write our dates...don't you people use kilometrs?

Posted by Massive84 on Sep-11-2004 07:48:

if you want to remember it, go cry in a corner about it

like many said the world and this forum is not all about America, if you don't want to forget be my guest, not that many people care, and the ones that DO care are the ones you should corrsspond with, so yes the America forum on TA would be the best place.

Maybe it's just me, but when you use the word "tribute" it adds an air of circus to the event. These poor people never wanted to become symbols of a unified US, and I feel that that is what is happening to some degree here.

Ok, I misunderstood (it was late). My bad.

I was, as you so rightly has guessed, refering to your posts from the past, and took the one you wrote in this thread as a continuation of that:

Re-reading your initial post, bearing this in mind, I might have been to quick to the trigger as regards to you, but I still think that such a memorial thread belong in the local forum.

Enough said, thank you. Why a tribute thread would need to be started on Tranceaddict three years after is beyond me. How about a private prayer for the lives lost.

Posted by BadBadNeil on Sep-11-2004 17:17:

i guess we should expect it, the last few people aren't from here.

The next time I see a tribute thread on here to any person dying I am gonna be all over it. My compassion for any foreign person killed has run dry.

Posted by speedracer_mec on Sep-11-2004 17:20:

What I find funny is how quicky that thread was closed. It was closed in a matter of minutes....like if it was going to cause an uproar on the forums in some form. With so many other threads all over this board causing flame wars and needing moderation...they run and close that thread.

Quite frankly, If you dont want to take part of that thread...ignore and let it slip down. Dont post in it , if it offends you and your nation for some reason then just dont take part in it, but obviously posting in this thread shows the animosity some people have for the U.S.

One thing I dont understand is with soooooo many threads available on this forum....threads in the music discussion, threads in the new releases, threads in the local forums, threads viewed everyone and sometimes misplaced sometimes in the wrong forum.....WHY POST in a thread that doesnt pertain to you? If you have a problem, dont post in it. Better yet, why not move the thread....closing it in a short span of time is a slap in the face.

I understand a remembrance thread doesnt belong in this forum, but when some posters on this forum yell and write very offensive writing(no names), I see that more worthy of banning/closing. Like I said, 9/11 is not more special than any other national tragedy happening worldwide...but feel free to post any of them. I myself will not have any problem with it. Why? Because I have tolerance...something some ignorant people worldwide dont have or havent been taught.

I understand this isn't a political/debate issue and doesnt belong in this forum, by why close it in a matter of minutes when you have Noobs in the music discussion always getting (posting nonsense about p2p programs, music dl sites, old subjects)flamed for many many pages without moderation.

btw, this isnt a rep/dem issue, this is a nationwide remembrance and quite frankly it should hold true regardless who is in office. Im done posting today....utterly disgusted.
