You should see the political garbage Halliburton (AKA Brown & Root, AKA Kellogg Brown & Root AKA Brown & Root Services) used to do:

From an online article dated 2000 (before September 11th 2001 or Gulf War II/Iraq War II)

quote:
Originally posted by the texasobserver.org online article titled "The Candidate from Brown and Root

...From 1962 to 1972, for instance, the company worked in the former South Vietnam building roads, landing strips, harbors and military bases. Later in 1992, the Pentagon gave the company an additional $5 million to update its report. That same year, Brown & Root won a five-year logistics contract from the United States Army Corps of Engineers to work alongside American GIs in places like Zaire, Haiti, Somalia, Kosovo, the Balkans and Saudi Arabia....

thats funny...but isn't that first washinton post link kinda old?

Posted by Q5echo on Sep-13-2004 04:42:

also, the first CBS link is nothing new or surprising (big energy and infrastructure doing business in the worlds largest oil regions)

the second link is actually pretty flattering to H-burton and describes, quite fairly, how they're an integral part of the effort in Iraq

the CNN link is in the history books

...and Haliburton.org is...well...bias to no end. but interesting.

Posted by The Peach on Sep-13-2004 05:37:

the point of the thread was to spark a discussion about halliburton, but if you feel like discussing the random articles i posted (from a simple google search), then have fun.

Posted by Q5echo on Sep-13-2004 05:48:

well what exactly then do you want to discuss?

because i'll tell ya, that it was pretty irresponsible to post outdated links and think they have any bearing on a current discussion.

BTW do you really think imokruok is contributing to Cheney's pockets? you would be wrong you know?

Posted by jrbuddha on Sep-13-2004 06:32:

I got a job offer from halliburton. said something like "if working in the desert in 100degree heat isnt for your, then this job is not for you." or something like that...ill have to dig up the email if i still have it and post it lol.

*Sigh* Jesus H. Christ, some people.

how do news articles from the past not have any bearing on current discussions? lol. do you dismiss anything not written the day of? below are some current links.

i wrote "halliburton, any thoughts?" then provided links i found on the first page of my google search. exfuckingscuse me if the links dont fit your taste...why dont you post some in reply? im sure imokruok's investments are miniscule, so you're probably right, he isn't really contributing to cheney's pockets.

p.s. if i remove the links will you stop whining?

Can you explain how he would be lining Cheney's pockets since Cheney doesn't hold a material interest in the company anymore? Even if Imokurok happens to be a multi-billion dollar investor, the only people really profiting by his buying and selling stock are the commission brokers who handle the transactions. You obviously don't have a very clear understanding of how business and stocks work.

So you're saying that when I buy stock in HAL, some of that money goes to "Cheney's Pals", who then turn around and pay the almighty dark sith some of that money??? Not only do you have zero proof of that, it doesn't exactly make any sense either!

Cheney sold all of his HAL stock in 2000 to avoid precisely the conflicts of interest that you're trying to claim exist. He only collects money from the company from a contract that was in place when he was in charge, long before he was ever the VP. There is nothing wrong with that.

Whether you like him or hate him, those charges are baseless.

so where is he collecting the $ from? also, what he receives annually is confidential, but has been reported to be from 150,000 to somewhere in the millions. how does this not have ANYTHING to do with stockholders? im not being a smartass, i sincerely want to know. explain this to me.

It's like a retirement portion of a contract if you can think about it like that. Think defined benefit program or something along those lines, except that he is merely receiving contractual trailers that were negotiated and put in place long before he was ever part of the current administration. You're looking for conspiracies that aren't there.

In any event, buying HAL stock doesn't do anything for Cheney as he owns no stock. The only way I think he would be able to benefit in the situation you claim to be happening would be if a large buyer came in, ran the stock price up, allowing Cheney to sell his shares at an inflated price...which as I've explained, cannot happen as he doesn't own any(ZERO) shares of HAL stock.

Posted by The Peach on Sep-13-2004 15:41:

i see your point and thank you for explaining that to me. i dont really see any sort of conspiracy after his appointment to the VP...but more so a question of where the money comes from that pays him every year and how large annual payouts could have nothing to do with the stockholders (at least indirectly). perhaps they had set aside large amounts of cash while he was ceo?

needless to say, imho, the whole story sounds shady. too much military privatization and enormous amounts of cash being made from this "optional war" (my opinion).

Posted by Q5echo on Sep-13-2004 16:42:

he has disclosed 433,000 worth of stock options that at current prices, if exercised, is worth about $18 million. and guess what? he has legaly volunteerd all profits from said options to charity! and non-deferred i might add.

BTW he has only two more years of the "deferred compesation" package payments left at around $150,000 each. totally legal as he has already paid into them prior to retirement and taking office.

he's quite shrewd.

That's why they fear him. God forbit we actually have intelligent people running our country!

Posted by The Peach on Sep-13-2004 17:26:

i dont question cheney's intelligence, even though he dropped out of yale...i sure as hell didnt get in there. he is the puppetmaster.

but we really dont want to discuss intelligence do we? i mean, bush for christ's sake.

I never said anything about the stocks and money.. in other words, I never ment to say that I just said that there is a preference, and personal interests ofcourse, in some sort of way.. I mean, come on, are you trying to say that Cheney's ties and friendship with Halliburton is gone with the clap of a hand?

No, it's just a silly topic to dwell on to come up with new ways to sling mud at the administration.

Posted by The Peach on Sep-13-2004 20:54:

the administration is shady, can't expect people not to exercise their rights to free speech.
