Read This! How 2 make this sound in Reason???

Hola amigos!

I don't know how to make this kind of quitarr sound in Reason?
Here are 2 samples:

http://www.geocities.com/trance_ta/ATB-Quitar.mp3

http://www.geocities.com/trance_ta/...x-SailAwayQ.mp3

(and if someone has extra time, PLEASE, make mid from this one!!)

Well for the second clip it's just your standard supersaw and then something that sounds kinda like the Six String preset in FM7 (sorry dunno if it really has a proper term)

Posted by trance-ta on Sep-13-2004 07:43:

SuperSaw? Is that more trance sound? I am more after the quitar sound...
Fm7? I can't find that one in Reason... Is it in Subtractor?

Posted by Low Profile on Sep-13-2004 10:46:

the 9PM lead... many have tried to recreate that.
that's the sound that made the tune famous in the first place
Someone said that it's actually just a preset on one of the Roland JV synths..

Well, emulating it well without using samples is very tough, if not impossible (well, maybe resynthesis or some crazy freq. modulation :S )

This is as close as I got with Reason (subtractor)
(RSN 2.5 file)

http://www.network.is/valdemar/9pm_lead.zip

it's still a far way from perfect, but at least you can use this as a base..

Cool!
Thanks for help m8

And how about the second sound (Diana Fox)? Is it also really really hard to achieve with Reason? I don't get even close with Subtractor

Just type ' SuperSaw ' in Search
Fm7 is a VST and you cant use this with Reason! You can rewire Reason with Cubase or Fruity, or bla bla

I think the second sample is some sort of Koto-sound...Or something like that...

Posted by thecYrus on Sep-14-2004 14:34:

the second sounds a bit square'ish and perhaps some ring/freq-modulation.. but i don't think you can get the same sound with subtractive synthesis..

dude you wanna sound like a cheese artirt...cuase these samples are cheese...why would u wanna sound like ATB

Posted by trance-ta on Sep-14-2004 20:03:

I don't wanna sound 100% like some other artist. I just really like those sounds. And I wanna know how to get them with Reason so I can maybe learn more and maybe make my own sounds from them...

Posted by trance-ta on Sep-14-2004 20:11:

Cheese? Well I like ATB's songs, they are full of nice dance energy
And cheese trance is also trance And I think I like this kind of trance best. Well, it's just me.

And I like those sounds that are in the samples.
Joi Lamusic said that the second one sounds like Koto... What is that?
thecYrus thinks I can't get that sound in SUbtractor...Do you think I can get that sound in Reason with some other synth?

The first sample could be done with a sampled electric guitar. Check out the Reason Factory Bank :P

To get the sound in the second sample you should mess around with the malstrom synth.

U can find a similar sound in the Reason soundbank.
Look in NN19 Sampler patches, Guitar and then the GTRODRIVE patch.

We can't tell other people what to and what not to produce, it's their music

Idea

I edited Low Profile's sound

He had great ideas for the emulation, and I just tried making it sound that much closer.

It's a really tricky sound to get with the subtractor, and a lot of this was just guess and test.

It's also very chunky and wasteful...

However, I've saved this on my computer and plan to use it in something!

Hints:
-To get a more stringy sound, increase the Filter 1 Fq. by a tiny bit.
-The phase mod on the two oscillators can be changed to modify the sound a bit [can be best described as "tightening" or "loosening" the original sound]
-All the fx at the bottom are just to make the sound stick out a bit more.
-The Scream modifier makes the sound softer - it's really hard to keep the punchiness of the original sound with the twang and the softness.
-Increasing the attack on the compressor makes a harder pop noise when the note kicks in; maybe you're looking for that or not.
-The mod wheel is as good as it's going to get as far as I'm concerned.
-Have fun!

For the ATB sound? The Nylon Guitar patch is a much better choice, just set the pitchbend to 2 intervals and push the wheel up all the way, and you'll get a near-perfect recreation.

Sisterbliss, thank you for advice
I will try that when I have more time
