Why am i not feeling it for uplifting trance nowadays?

Trance used to up my mood, it was a part of my life, whatever.

But these days i just cant stand it!!! the only music i feel for is progressive trance, house, and breakbeats...

I want to like trance again, but whenever i listen to current trance, it makes me want to turn it off and put on some dark funky tune of digweed's sets. It's not a bad thing either, since i topped something that's much better than what i used to like.

Who's feeling me?

It makes me want to put on some powerful progressive/anthem trance by 1997 Digweed, actually.

cos theres hardly anyone putting forward fresh ideas, too much following of a particular type of trance that is unimaginative and tired. Most of the big names have run out of steam eg. thrillseekers, armin, mike etc... and just produce the same old dog shit. Theres still some good producers out there tho eg. john askew

I think that people's music tastes change evolve over time, and that what floated your aural boat in 2001 ain't gonna please you again in 2004... I mean, this year I have started to love Sasha, JAmes Zabiela, John DIgweed (saw him in May, what an awesome DJ!) and a few others, from being an Armin and Tiesto whore in 2003, things change dude, don't be afraid of the evolution! Prog rocks me, I may be a lil drunk (not worthy of a drunk TA thread in COR tho ) but someone's drunken thoughts represent at least a fraction of their beliefs lol.

its funny how u mention askew, since 99% of his stuff sounds the same...

the problem with uplifting trance is that ferry/paul/tiesto dont spin much anymore, and if they do its mostly classics otherthen the sprinkled good track aka alba...

yes but his sound is good and i agree it is getting a little tired but at least its a fresh sound unlike, mike. what a joker he is, been using the same arrangement since silverbath.

what do u mean they dont spin much anymore, they all have full schedules playing at least twice a week all the way upto xmas.

I'm not particularly fond of clonetrancers myself.... when 1000 different tracks by diff. producers sound like they could have all been made by the same artist, that strikes me in an uncomfortable way, and not uncomfortable as in: "WHOA! WHAT WAS THAT? THAT WAS WEIRD, BUT COOL!"

ive heard tons of boring uplifting songs but that doesnt make the GOOD uplifting songs any worse

dont be ignorant

if there was a final boss to edm it would be something like IDM or noise

people who dont like a style of music anymore is mainly cause all they do is listen to that specific style way to much and grow tired of it.

Perhaps you've been listening to too much of it?

You don't have to listen to just one type of music all the time. Try something different, something new. Some TAs would say that you've moved to the next level, some would say that you've been listening to the "wrong" type of music.

I say, explore a bit, and try to reach for some new boundaries. There are an unlimited amount of good music (and bad, unfortunately) out there, so it's all up to you to discover your new gems.

I'm sure by now you should have some idea of what you like in your music, the melodies, the basslines, the techiness, the "trippyness," and so forth.

Personally, the best way for me to find music is to discover DJs and producers that share the same preferences as me and stick with them. Slowly, your knowledge and collection of DJs and producers will grow and so will your knowledge for music.

That song from the Vengaboys used to be my favorite back in High School.

Over the years though, I've been playing it and since then It has gotten pretty boring to listen to.

Now I listen to a variety of uplifters instead of fake cheezy crap like Lasgo or Ian Van Dahl.

i feel teh same way. i've been digging (true)hiphop more and more for the last 3 years. it seems 4/4 is dead!

This is what I do as well. Sometimes I get certain compulsions and obsessions, and like waves they recede after awhile... but in due time, they come back -- usually in a twisted, recombinant form, but that's life. Or I'll throw out several ideas and either craft the stuff myself or wait for it to come around via other producers. (Altho I'm still waiting for more steampunk trance that combines traditional lute, hurdy-gurdy, and psaltery performances with supersaws and a nice, hard kick.)

If you get lost in the forest of sound trees, you can always find your way back by listening for the tracks from your past.

It can help to be gradual. For example, if you're getting into "breaks" and moving away from "trance" for now, what about breaktrance? A perfectly viable A * B = AB.

Perhaps even listen to something you totally are unaccustomed to and tough it out for awhile and see, uh, hear what happens. It can be such a rush to be in new territory, feeling feelings you've never felt before being settling in. And then travelling some more, maybe tracing it back. There are wondrous, beautiful connections everywhere.

Running through timelines is a lot of fun... going back to "trance" before it was called as such, or following "alternate paths" and considering what the music may have been like in a parallel universe.

Like physical exercise, it does take discipline but the rewards for your long-term health are great.

I just saw you post this. Funny thing is with four-on-the-floor BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM (4/4 is a time signature), you can easily turn a house track into breaks by shuffling the kick drums, a few snares, and if need be, the bassline.

Kind of like taking a box of building blocks -- likened to the fundamental components of music, like how atoms are "blocks" of matter -- and take the same essential pieces and put them together in different ways.

It's interesting to note that when you do the inverse, such as Eminem's "Without Me" which actually has a house music beat (despite his proclamation of "nobody likes techno"), you end up with some pretty popular results.

Simple changes can affect the sonic landscape in myriad ways. For example, if you take a typical trance track with a supersaw and turn that into a supertriangle or supersine or some other type of lead instrument (maybe even a flanged whooshy banjo or lo-fi'ed oboe that sounds like a Game Boy), great, unique things can happen in a very easy way.

you're right. but thats the same for any tune. you can shuffle the kicks and make something entirley different. but when it comes down to it, the bassline distinguishes the tune. a funky bouncy bassline. what comes to mind? house! an emotional melody or bassline? trance.

And yes, and each of them is such a big "planet" with "rings" that overlap. You can have "trancey house" -- heck, you might get a big laugh out of swapping basslines! There are labels, but like the ideal abilities of Neo in the popular movie The Matrix, there are no rules. Or, perhaps more accurately: you make and resculpt the rules to your whims, just like you listen to the music that you like to listen to.

its like any other cycle out there, up and downs / highs and lows
beeing diversified counts for all aspects of life, music not excluded. i try to vary my listening habits the most i can, so i dont get too tired of something too quick.

Same thing happened to me.. Don't listen to much ASOT stuff any more.. It's all about Oslo Nights and John Digweed on Kiss100...
