funky progressive to euphoric =)

I'm producing this little track at the moment, for my new vocalist - I've been listening to it a lot (as you do when you are producing) and my ears are pretty tired.

this is a sample, right out of cubase, unmastered - would love to know your opinions.

I'm pretty happy with the funky prog begining (although it needs extending) - and she'll sing where the break comes - but is the main section ok?

thanks in advance for listening - I'll return all favours

there is a new link about ten down from here with the full track minus vocals

thanks

op

listening. it sounds damn good right from the start. got this funky feel.

at 2:10 i would use a minor type chord change to make it darker instead of the happyish major type chord change, but it's ok that's just the way i'd do it (not better or worse). then at 2:44 you got a cool filtered arp lead going and some crashy fx that are cool. building up.... bang!

i could see how some people would say it is a little cheesy, but for using majorish type stuff everywhere i'd say you did a good job of balancing the badassness with the cheese... so yeah for this type of song its good. i think vocals would be a good addition as long as they are good vocals

wow man!
great track!
got nothing more to say lol

good work man!

cheers guys =)

extalin - just finished some work with ian van dahl/nulife, so that commercial/cheese thing has rubbed off on me - the vocal will make this track I think - she's pretty good, and I have just brought a nice mic - so if all goes well =)

A.Y. - I'm flattered, thanks matey =)

return all favours? hehe, why dont u start by giving me a "bj" , j/k m8
damn, i gotta say for the mastering is already excellent, and u didnt even master yet :O
i gotta learn cubase one day ...
the whole beginning is excellent, the climax is excellent, cant wait for vocals :O :O :O
climax is very oldschool melody, all i suggest is make it longer about 7-8 minutes, then finish vocal, and send me the full!!!!
this is really amazing so far, i hope u do good job on vocals.
keep us updated
peace out

PS: its not funky prog, this is all 100% columbian trance from the farms , hehe, no its just all trance , no prog

lol - ah, by return all favours - I'd expect a little sucky sucky from you first - or maybe we could do some 69

the way it sound is down to eq on every track (I do it as I go now, cause it saves time ) - will sound louder when it's mastered

twill be about 7 in the end (the intro is prog (more so in the non sample version, as it builds in a prog way))

I'll send you a linky when it's done =)

thanks for the comments - much much needed motivation to finish it

oooh flawless quality. sounds quite techy, that lead when it buils up is really flat, but it sounds REALLY cool like that, techy like i said. sounds are ace, melody is ace, production is tight as fuck. really impressed man. at the break now, lovely stuff.deffo stands out a bit. quite a unique melody. keep up the good work man

Posted by djianthomas on Sep-16-2004 10:55:

really nice track matey. especally love the funky intro. sounds a bit like it is going to go into new order - blue monday at times, which is great cause i love that track. quality of the production is also very good. sounds really clean to me, so well done. dont know about putting vocals on this though. there are so many quality tunes out there that have been wrecked by a vocal for me, meaning that i didnt buy it. just make sure that if this ever gets released, have an instrumental on the other side

keep up the good work

Posted by optik on Sep-16-2004 19:17:

thanks ian, much appreciated (being a new order fan myself )

there will be a instrumental version don't worry - in fact, here is the whole thing ready to get the vocal... (i think - if anyone can think of ways to make it better before I get my girlie in I'd really appreciate hearing them =) )

full track is here =) - click away babes

thanks everyone for taking the time - I can see how hard it is here to get people to listen as a producer who hasn't posted here before and I really appreciate your time - if anyone wants me to have a listen to their stuff, just pm me, or mention it in the topic and I'll be there =)

cheers

Op

Hi m8, your track is awesome! It's got the right blend of everything, and although I haven't heard the vocals version, I'm thinking it doesn't really need anything more.
I especially loved the intro, the bass + warbly pad things go really well together. It's cool the way it ends up being uplifting; you've done it well and it's a pleasure to hear an uplifting melody that doesn't have the start-of-tune as most every other.

thanks pho' mo

much much appreciated =)
