Heinz-Kerry: "Let them go naked."

Yeah, I know it's no big deal, but I thought it was funny. At least if Kerry gets elected we'll have four years of humorous quotes by Mrs. Ketchup.

when threads go way wrong.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-16-2004 14:10:

ANYWAYS!

Did I read it right? They're going out of their way to help another country? Just north of here in Florida, there are STILL people without power from Hurrican Charley a month ago. And with Ivan over the southern US, people in our OWN country are going to need some help as well. Why is she going to the Caribbean when problems still exist at home?

Posted by ResonantDrag on Sep-16-2004 14:29:

so what do you propose the wife of a presidential candidate do to help the great state of Florida? do you realize that there is federal disaster funding for your state and my state in the works right now?

sorry about the weather, but next time please stem your complaints to god.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-16-2004 15:07:

Is Federal Aid always enough, though? Especially when you have so many people who have their houses destroyed and insurance refuses to pay for it until the house in brought up to hurricane code? These people had very little money in the first place - how do you think they're doing now? I honestly don't know how far Federal relief goes - would it pay for these people to have their houses repaired?

I realize that the Caribben nations really need this sort of thing - I was just bringing up the fact thet we're looking out for #2 before #1... skewed priorites like this just seem to scream 'Vote whore"

Posted by ResonantDrag on Sep-16-2004 15:25:

did you see the coverage of edwards and his wife inspecting damage and making statements in WNC?

and no, federal aide is never enough to cover the damage caused by natural disasters. Hurricanes are one of the reasons i don't live in Florida (that and the damn heat).

i seriously doubt that her priorities are to repair the carribean before repairing florida. does this mean we should ignore damage elsewhere? From my understanding, this years hurricanes have been some of the worst in Carribean history. This isn't a case a skewed priorities, unless the chief priority is to turn a blind eye on other people's suffering.

The disturbing thing to me is the "let them go naked" quote. i'm curious as to the context in which that was derived.
