Vinyl signaturing?

I bought the vinyl "Woodshokk - Tulips & Chocolate" and around the middle of the ring was a carved signature on this piece of plastic. It says "Ms. Terrific"..

Eh?

It doesn't bother me and mess with the music, so it doesn't matter. I'm just curious!

Almost every vinyl has that. Usually it says the Cat ID.

If you got the bootleg of Junkie XL - Red pill blue pill with Dave Matthews Band - space Between on the B-side, you can see the cat ID scraped out (gonna be a pain in the ass if you get your needle in that scrape).

wally masterpiece
no a clue what it means

Cat Id ...I didnt know that!!

I always thought some @sshole carved something in it

they inscribe it before the labels get put on so they know what they are labelling

I'm pretty sure that the markings with the names are the name of the person who cut/matsered the vinyl, its like when people make pottery this is there sig.

The markings with numbers are the cat number as mentioned before, mostly used by bigger labels.

Also records will have a/b markings on them, which is (wait just asking sherlock ) the side of the vinyl, this is extremely helpful with whitelabels.

Yeah I''ve notice people's names written on records sometimes, bored pressing plant workers maybe?

Posted by Freak on Sep-18-2004 12:07:

Quite simple this

its a pressing plant id

I have about 1000 records with 'DAMONT' inscribed- damont audio is a large pressing plant

Certain ones do have names on, can be the cutter or the masterer. I have loads like this too.

I have all sorts of wierd and wonderful inscriptions on some of them.
Most bizarre has to be a mobile phone number with a cryptic message inscribed on a Tim Deluxe record promo..Ive never had the balls to call it

wally masterpiece

Wally was the geezer who mastered it/cut the glass master, and/or pressed it. Masterpiece is the cutting house (quite a well known one actually)

Anyone have the Duende vinyl? Mine's got this inscribed into it in the same area as the catalog number:

ROB STYLES WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS RELEASE TO L.J. VROEGINDEWEIJ (9 JUNE 1947 - 15 MARCH 2004) DAD I LOVE YOU. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. REST IN PEACE. LOVE, ROBBERT.

I've seen a ton of the Wally Masterpiece ones, but the one on Duende is the most unusual I've seen.
