2004 Ryder Cup - Europe vs USA

C'Mon the Europe

Anyones thoughts to the key players ?

Personally i'm looking for a big game from Garcia & Westwood this morning

Always an excellent contest and it will be very close again. I think it will come down to how the rookies perform rather than the big guns, since both sides have 5. The way Luke Donald has been playing recently means he could make a big impact, plus he learned his trade over in the US while at college

With my favorite golfers being Tiger Woods(fan since US Amateurs) and David Duval(Hes going to be a good again ) I dont know who to support. I guess I will go for Europe but I do want to see Tiger do well and get off this slump of his. I hate Mickelson, Sutton and the other US golfers, cocky wank*rs to me.

Hoping for Sergio to keep up that form he has had of late and I think Westwood will have a good RC.

Im looking forward to that. Big weekend in England

Ryder Cup
Chelski v Tottenham
then Monday its:
Man Utd v Liverpool

Cant get better than that!

dont forget also the ICC trophy cricket here in the quarters, and Bolton at Highbury trying to be the first to beat the gooners

Forgot about Bolton Arsenal! I was thinking of something on Sat but couldnt . Going to the pub to watch that one. Arsenal will win 4-2 in my opinion! I know nothing about Cricket but the nation loves it so I should have added it.

Can someone post the Sky Sports Ryder Cup times please thanks!

P Mickelson & T Woods lost to C Montgomerie & P Harrington 2 and 1
D Love III & C Campbell lost to D Clarke & MA Jimenez 5 and 4
C Riley & S Cink halved with P McGinley & L Donald A/S
D Toms & J Furyk lost to S Garcia & L Westwood 5 and 3

Europe made a dream start to the first day of the 35th Ryder Cup, taking a 3- lead after the morning fourballs at Oakland Hills.

Europe got off to a flyer as Colin Montgomerie birdied the first - and with his partner Padraig Harrington the next three - on their way to a 2 and 1 victory over world number two Tiger Woods and fourth-ranked Phil Mickelson.

The much-vaunted American pair never gelled and trailed throughout, despite Mickelson making a birdie at 16 when they trailed dormy three. But Monty's steady par at the short 17th wrapped up the win.

European cup veterans Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez fared even better, crushing Davis Love III and Chad Campbell 5 and 4.

Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood also started impressively and closed out their match against David Toms and Jim Furyk 5 and 3 on the 15th green.

Incredibly, the Americans never led in any match all morning and had to battle for a half point in the third match.

The contest between Chris Riley and Stewart Cink and Paul McGinley and Luke Donald was a lot closer affair throughout.

McGinley put Europe ahead with a birdie at 13, but Cink rolled in a birdie putt at 15 to level it, then lipped the cup for a birdie and a win at 16.

The match went up the 18th all square and Cink, Riley and Donald all found the fairway. But only Donald found the green with his approach and after Cink missed his par putt, Riley was forced to hole a clutch six-footer for the Americans' only half point of the morning.

seems like none of the many american TAs dare post here yet. maybe if they win a lot of matches today they might show their faces, or just try to invent another sport so they can 'be the best at it'

My fuck the americans made a right cock up of it.
Only watched it cos I'm bored out of my Tree.

The irish national anthem was sang in English by some backward hillbilly ******. It's insulting considering that the Team consists of 3 Irish players.

Of course the US anthem was sang beautifully while a pair of F16 flew overhead.

Americans- Smugs ******s

which makes the fact that irish, english, scottish, spanish, french, german etc etc can team up and beat them feel more satisfying

Its not as bad as 5 years ago at Brookline. Aparently during the practice rounds the Europeans were going round signing autographs and spending time getting photos, one of them even waited while a woman checked on the digital cam and the said nah we can do better than that n took another, while the yanks just went round n shunned most of them

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Sep-18-2004 21:01:

hahaha....notice the absence of Americans in this thread?? They don't like to talk about things when they're not winning.

The American galleries at these events are so ANNOYING. They heckle European players (though nothing too outrageous has happened yet) and shout stupid things like U.S.A.!!! Losers....they should ban beer from golf events in the US. At least in Europe, the crowds are very respectful of good golf, from EITHER side.

Right now, it's 9-4 for Europe...I hope it ends up 11-5.

Posted by Michael19 on Sep-18-2004 22:56:

good the americans are shit. 11-5.

all over now. they can stick there "USA, USA" up their holes now.

Hey we're taking a bit of a beating in the singles. Don't want a repeat of last time the Ryder cup was on US soil!

I know the galleries in the USA are absolutely disgusting (cheering Sergio's ball down the slope, etc)....but if the Europeans can't win ONLY THREE matches, they don't deserve to win it again.

You don't like Mickelson because you think he's cocky, yet you like Tiger. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I'd try and defend the US since there seems to be a European bandwagon going here, but I don't care for golf in the least so I'd make no ground on it.

Posted by Acid Circus on Sep-19-2004 19:18:

Mickelson doesn't seem that cocky, I remember him talking away to the fans when the parctising for the open at Troon a few years ago (not this year). The one I currently dislike is Di Marco, hes more of a cheerleader than a golfer at the moment!

Posted by Ian on Sep-19-2004 19:24:

I think the most disappointing thing is that some of the Europeans are being booed by the Yank fans, while it's one thing to support your team, disrespecting people like this is just wrong imho

Posted by InterMilan31 on Sep-19-2004 20:14:

Mickelson can go f*ck himself.

GO EUROPE! These American fans are making me sick!
