Remixing

How do you remix a song? How do people take vocals from one track and put them on origanl beats if the record company doesnt send them to you. What programs would you use?

If it was an official remix you would be given the vocals to the song.

If it isnt an official remix (Maybe a cover), you would have to find the acapella yourself.
