Drunk Intarweb Terminology

Anyone out there in TA use online phrases/terms like "OWNED" or "Quality" or anything of that sort? Saying LOL would be an extreme tho, me thinks. I say "owned" quite a lot lately. Last night I went on a go kart track and this one kid screwed up a turn and wound up facing the wall (he didnt get hurt, just stuck), and the go-karts don't have a reverse gear. I yelled, "OWNED!" at him. Pretty stupid, but he did get owned, one of the track staff had to get out onto the track and pull the kart back so he could finish the lap.

At one FLTA party, Damon shot some really nice footage and I said, "That was maximum quality, dude!"

One of the funniest things I love hearing at FLTA gatherings is Arturo saying "I DIE."

Funny how the intarweb affects life nowadays.

do you actually say it as "double-u tee eff"? Because that would be kinda weird

It's been proven through the ages that language is not static. Internet terminology is definitely the changing way of things. Day after day, we are drawn closer to newspeak

Actually I do that too!!! I work in an office and (obviously) swearing is prohibited so I say "Double-U-Tee Eff" LOL....

I've never said "NOOB" but now I think I will....

Just goes to show how nerdy we all are.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-19-2004 01:08:

meh, it's just that the subtle chaning of the times is upon us and noticeable. My English teacher in High School never hesitated to share with us how many kids these days seem to have forgotten that, even in essays, the word "you" is NOT spelt "U"

Language is just a means to an end, don't deify something to the point of absolute expectation: you'll doom yourself to prejudice. Instead, focus your energy towards understanding communication for what it is regardless of the form it comes in.

but in the meantime...

OMG WTF R U PPL JST A BUNCH O N00bies? LOLOLO!!!1!!11

It's funny that you made this thread, cause the other day I actually said LOL out loud. I didn't even realize I said it till the girl I was with looked at me, bewildered, and said "Spend a lot of time on the computer, huh?"

Posted by DarkAngel on Sep-19-2004 01:12:

Wanna hear something stupid??? I actually say OMGHI2U at my cute co-workers at work!!!!

I even said it to anuneventrade at the last Orlando party (I think I did, I was really drunk) as well as to ambs and her friend Angel BWAHAHA!!!!

knob and quality are common enough in europe, well Ireland and britain anyway in normal life.

Me and my friends say all internet acronyms in real life (it started as a joke now its just every day speech i think). It's even funnier when u say them in front of girls LOL

Quality isn't used primarily on the internet, I've used it in spoken language, and I hardly ever type it.

i've noticed i've beening using "owned" a lot too

Halcyon..i like the sig. sorry about that off topic

^ tyvm!

I made it myself!

*is taken back to the days when he used to make macaroni art for his parents*

I once opened a door for an old lady at an Applebees in Nebraska. When she said "Thank you very much!" I replied "np". I actually said the letters n and p. I felt like such an idiot and was so shocked that I'd just done that, I almost let the door slip and hit the old lady!

Yea, me and my friends have been using internet terminology IRL for about 2 years now. Its quite amusing saying it in front of people that have no idea what your talking about. I often times write things on the board(still in highschool)and force my teacher to read it aloud. Then we(me and 2 others)laugh, while the others in the class look around completely lost. Owned really isnt uncommon to hear nowadays. I hear it at least 3-4 times a day not coming from me or my friends.

Posted by twisted on Sep-19-2004 04:41:

i would hope one of my friends stabbed me if i ever said any of those..

if you say that kinda thing when your off the internet....you gotta recognize how much of a geek you are

EDIT..

*puts on rectangular glasses*

i forgot i saw owned and chooon and tuuuune all the time..

dunno if tune and choon are from the internet though..

but really...if you say "WTF" or "LOL" you need to get your life back haha

Posted by Arbiter on Sep-19-2004 05:04:

To me, that sort of language is just a joke, and so I've been known to use it as such. Personally I find it hilarious when other people say internet slang out loud, and most people seem to feel the same way when I do it. The way I see it, if people find it funny and have a little fun with it, there's no reason not to use it.

BTW, if u say "owned" ur a n00b, if u were 1337 like me u'd say "pawned." (gg)

Posted by jrbuddha on Sep-19-2004 05:10:

i thought i heard one of the announcers on ESPN say owned during Sports Center the other day...

<-----nerd and proud of it

my son(6) & I are very competitive against each other. We often say 'a winner is you' & 'you is the suck'
to each other, just to piss each other off

I went out for a short bit and met this really cool girl, and I said "OWNED," and she asked me, "Did you just say 'OWNED'?" I said 'Yeah," and we got into a discussion about intarweb terminology and she said the same thing you did in the above quote, Tweek! Classic!!!!

The girl was REALLY cool and cute, though. She visits ebaumsworld.com and that's where I use a lot of Forum Pics, like STFU and OWNED, etc etc.

Posted by idoru on Sep-19-2004 07:21:

Quite a few people at my school say "OMG" out loud, letter-by-letter. Most people just say "Owned!" or "Pwned!" Other than that, I don't think I've ever heard anybody say anything else. Though reading through this, I'm worried about the day I'll actually laugh and say "LOL!"
