PC problem: Sound goes off!

Every now and then the sound on my PC goes out. Oddly, I can still hear the music using Windows Media Player. But the PC sounds and the Winamp and real player and everything else goes off. Any idea what's going on?

which os are you using?
is your sound card compatible with your os?

did you recently re-install your os?

many factors

best thing to do is to install your sound drivers again.

Is there anything in common with these occurences? Like if it always happens after you load a particular program?

Not really. Sometimes it doesn't happen. It hasn't happened for about 7 days now. But sometimes as soon as I open winamp or real player the sound goes off. Other times it just goes off without me opening any of those music programs(I noticed this when the clicking sounds stop).

And my OS is Windows ME. I assume the sound card is compatible with the OS since it came with it when I bought it.
