The late late show

What's going on? I saw some blonde dude by the name of Drew Carey hosting. Anybody know who's going to be the permament host now that Craig Kilborn is gone? Or is CBS just going to try out some people before they make a decision?

conan owns that slot.

Yeah. Some would say that. Not me though. I have seen him choke a couple of times. And his hair has its own agenda. That bothers me.

how do you choke if the show isnt live ? he can do many takes if he didnt like the segment.

Dude tells a joke during his monologue, total silence. Dude does another joke, still the silence. Maybe that just happened once, and maybe that one time I was really drunk and was imagining. However, when sober, I don't want to feel sorry for a guy who struggles, in my view of course, to be funny. That's Conan. I need someone else.

I agree that his monologues aren't (Leno is the king of mononlogue) usually Conans best area. He never had a career in stand-up, but his in-studio bits, antics, remotes, and interviews (hit and miss), make up for that.

Yet it doesn't matter how good a joke Kilborn tells, because he just can't tell a joke. And when I don't laugh at his monologue jokes he brings his nostalgic "news" segment followed by a banal interview. The only shining point is that occasionally he would bring on a guy from the street or someone who worked there like the sound guy who would be funnier than him. Also, his announcer is funnier than him. That's why they replaced him with the hilarious Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, and now they're getting rid of him in late night.

Drew Carey is hilarious, You guys seen his show, Whose Line Is It Anyways?, I think its the funniest show ever.

I think he's a decently funny guy based on a few things he's said. You have to understand that all he does is sit there, read the cards, and push the buzzer though. Most of the funny of Whose Line comes from the four improv guys. Hehe.

only thing kilborne was good at was the daily show but john stewart is better now.

i think conan is awesome. but drew carey is also very funny and good at improv.

The cast is good. Ryan and Colin are the funniest, IMO. The improv out of that show is wired with comedy. Drew Carey does close to nothing. The Green Screen should be similar to Wliia.

But take heart Kilborn fans, he isn't the least funny guy on TV. No, that position resides with Carson Daly.

One of these days i'm going to make a personal list of the most unfunny talk show hosts out of Daly, Kimmel, Kilborn, McEnroe, Brady, Oprah, Pauley, and Danza.

And a list of the funniest talk show hosts from a selectioin of Conan, Leno, Letterman, DeGeneres, Miller, and Dr. Phil.

I watch too much damn TV.

I'm indifferent about Kilborn. I was just wondering about who was going to be the next host.

I didn't know McEnroe had a show. Damn. Where do I live? Brady made a bad choice by going into talk shows. BAD choice. I don't even know who Danza is.

DeGeneres I didn't know about either. Same goes about Miller, is there any relation to the beer? And about Dr. Phil, I just know Letterman makes fun of this guy and Oprah.

In conclusion, either I'm not watching enough TV or you do watch too much TV. I hope it's the latter.

Tony Danza is from the TV series "Who's the boss" and Dennis Miller was an anchorman for "Weekly Update" on the old SNL and more recently he did work on Monday Night Football. Ellen DeGeneres is funnier than I thought once I gave her a chance. Her show is also funny because she doesn't have any musical guests, there's just a black british DJ who plays music for about 30 seconds at the beginning of each show. Dr. Phil can be funny in a southern kind of way when he's not giving bogus advice to people. Yeah, Oprah and Dr. Phil have been made fun of by pretty much every comedy show ever aired in america, heh.

So far as Conan goes, you have to admit that he's got something even if you don't get his humor, I mean he was a writer on both SNL and The Simpsons in their earlier and funnier years.

See, I didn't know that. Or most of it. Thanks for info. But maybe it's just me, but I don't get him. I feel as if he's trying too hard to entertain, not all the time though. Maybe it's something personal. Who knows.

I'll add that there seems to be a stupid trend lately of making talk show hosts out of sitcom stars or sports icons. Danza, Pauley, Daly, McEnroe...they should have stuck to what they are good at imo. Well Daly shouldn't even be on TV but that's a whole different story. Or maybe not.

You might say that a talk show should be a talk show. Meaning that as long as the stars are interviewed, the rest of the show should be secondary. I don't know about you, but hearing what John Travolta's job at the dinery before he made it big isn't the most engrossing thing in the world. I think a talk show is much more interesting and entertaining when the comedy has as much emphasis as the talk. A lot of celebs don't realize this when they come on Conan and the conversation never even mentions their current project. Conan doesn't believe that his show should be simply a huge ad for the stars. It's primarily a comedy show before anything else. Most celebs aren't funny either, they're actors not comedians, and when paired with a host who has no problem having a conversation that would bore a hole through steel things can get sad. Most of my opinion comes from the fact that I don't care a whit about the lives of celebrities or what their current project is, so maybe i'm biased that way. Leno (with his standup and bits such as "Headlines" and "Jaywalking") and Letterman (I actually haven't seen much of him but what I did see was funny) also have nice comedy.

I feel like i've said this all before on these forums...
