Best Buys

Can anyone help me with these three questions I got?

1. Can anyone tell me where to go for the cheapest places for buying my DJ shit?
2. Also is there a place I can buy Vinyl in bulk, and cheaper like mainstream trance (Paul Van Dyk, Sasha...etc?)
3.What is the best buy, and the best of these; headphones, amp, monitor etc?

This is my first post in this area of the forums. I also just wanted to say hey to everyone and thanks in advance for the people that answer my noob questions. Hopefully, I can get myself out of noob status in the near future.

I get all of my gear from guitar center. They will price match just about any quote, and they will go out of their way to get you something you need. Another good gear place is www.agiprodj.com i know lots of ppl that buy stuff from there.

As for vinyl, support your local shops and dig instead of buying just mainstream stuff.

Good deals on gear:
2x sl-1200s (try 2 find used)
tascam xs-8 ($150 from audiolines i think)
carts: shure m44-g ($65ea) or stanton 520sk ($30 ea but not as good)
headphones: sennheiser hd280pro ($80 good stuff btw)

Great I got a reply! Thanks man, I'll have to goto Guitar Center sometime. I've bought stuff there before, but since it's a chain I thought someone would have a link to some cheap, but new stuff so I can bother a store in Houston. When I was in Colorado I did that to get a cheaper price on some stuff. Thanks anyway for the responce, I'm just glad I got noticed.

I get most my gear off eBay, sometimes at stupidly low prices

Posted by tequilatwin2 on Sep-22-2004 18:28:

Awesome! I'll definately pm him thanks for the contact. The problem with ebay is they could have spilt something like a drink in the mixer a little bit lowering the amount of time your stuff would last. With ebay unless unopened you just never know.

i like taking chances it's worked out good thus far!

Bang for the buck...
headphones: personally I prefer Sennheiser HD280 Pro's... They're comfy, cup around the ear (rather than hurting your earlobe), block out outside sounds well... they also have very clean bass response that isnt over-emphasised. they also dont cost near as much as the defacto sony mdr-v700s, and I like them better anyways.

Monitors? Event 20/20s.. best bang for the buck. they do sound quite nice you can do better for monitors, but you'll pay quite a bit more. The powered versions are expensive, so I recommend the passive ones. $100/speaker, or so.

Amp? For your purposes, any decent amp that pushes ~100w/ch @ 4 ohms will be fine for 20/20s. if you need a standalone amp, a used alesis RA100 is a great choice. 100w/ch @ 4 ohms, 2 channel. cant ask for much more in an amp: clean, cheap, light, simple. runs cool, no fan, doesnt eat power.

Posted by tequilatwin2 on Sep-23-2004 03:00:

Thanks for stopping by so far everyone. What is a standalone amp though? Also what if you want to spend a little? Not alot just nice products that aren't over priced or unecessary. Also what about mixers? Is PIONEER DJM600 too much, and what is the difference between that and the 500?

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Sep-24-2004 04:41:

standalone amp: a simple amplifier, does nothing but amplify an audio input signal to power speakers.

as opposed to a receiver, with integrated signal switching and tuning capabilities.

the DJM500 and DJM600 are very similar. the 600 has somewhat more effective EQs, a few more cheeseball effects, and a few other minor differences that I just cant recall at the very moment. If I recall correctly, the 600 does have a better cueing setup, I dont think the 500 has the cue pan knob, but it's also been a few years since i've touched a 500.

bottom line: DJM series mixers are expensive for what you get.

If you must buy a pioneer mixer, go for the DJM3000. It has a nicer layout and somewhat cleaner output than a DJM500 or 600. They just feel smoother to mix on, period. It's also smaller and lighter, and the crossfader toggled effects are kinda neat.

Consider a Vestax unit to start with. The 275 is really popular among this group of people, and for good reason.. if you going to spend big money on a mixer, you might as well get a Rane or Allen&Heath!

Posted by tequilatwin2 on Sep-24-2004 05:56:

I'll have to check into those mixers. It doesn't have to be a certain brand as long as it's nice for handling porposes and reliable. Thats the improtant thing I assume.

Guitar Center is awesome. My DJX700 was marked $250 and they gave it to me for $200 with no tax

Guitar Center :)

Well I work for guitar center, and we will match any price. So if you want to shop at a real store, I would suggest there. As far as service goes, I can ship you stuff, anywhere in the US. I would be glad to ship you and help along with your purchase, Or if you want to shop locally, there should be a guitar center near you. We have 137 stores nationwide.

And that my friends is the end of my salespitch.

Please email me if you have further questions.

Numark CC-1's for the Carts

I have a pair and I love em

Posted by toolman667 on Oct-13-2004 23:03:

Well my $.02 is that after reading many posts on the best starting mixer, I have come to the conclusion that the best mixer is a Vestax PCV, I just ordered myself a PCV-175 (3 ch mixer, 3band eqs) and I payed $239 shipped to my door.

Heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=WDVW

I thought that was an amazing price too for brand new in box. Anyway if you are looking to spend around $150, you might want to save that extra 90 and be happier. I havent gotten it yet, but I have only heard good things.

Good luck
