Confused Safest Place to Live?

Seems like there is death, violence, and destruction everywhere I look in the world today. Anyone got any evidence of a nice place to live that isn't having some sort of crisis?

I'm sure crime exists in every corner of the earth, but I'm quite happy to live on a small island in the Caribbean or maybe off the coast of Australia in Tahiti or Bora Bora. Would be a big tradeoff though!

Maybe Tahiti or Bora Bora but I'm not sure about the Caribbean. Wouldn't want to work hard to build a good life there then have something like Ivan come and demolish everything in a night.

QUEBEC is a really nice place to live....
not that its a perfect world.....
but it's quite calm and peacefull

This is true. I was just down there between hurricanes and it would suck to have everything get washed away in a big storm.

You could go to iceland, never hear much happening in their neck of the woods, they don't have any major natural diasters such as tornados or hurricanes and its far enough from Europe to be away from their problems.

Hawaii is pretty decent.

Maui and Kuaui are great. haven't been to the Big Island, but there seems to be a lot of crystal meth there lately???

Ohahu is just another big city.

...and the governor, you would swear she was a man at some point in her life.

i don't think you can find a safer city than montreal in north america.

no one is affraid to walk in the downtown core or anywhere else in the middle of the night.

hmm Switzerland?

Iceland is cool also.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Sep-22-2004 18:28:

Iceland was my thought as well, but if those volcanoes suddenly decide to cause mayhem again then that island is fucked. So prolly Switzerland.

I'm telling you...this is the place for me.

The only sacrifice would be civilization and the big city life I love so much. I think I could get over it though.

omg the last pic!!

heaven must look like that!

that would be boring after a while imo.

i would say there are plenty of places on earth that are really safe, it is just hard to find them

If I recall correctly, there was this one guy who saw the WW2 coming, and he decided to get away from the possible battleground as far as he could, so he moved to a remote pacific island. I think it was Iwo Jima or Midway or something like that but I'm not 100% sure which one.

Actually, you have a good point. After 7 days in Nevis I was getting a little stir crazy, and missed the real world. There are only so many palm trees and perfect beaches you can handle

Hmmm...wouldn't it be safe to live with Osama in a cave? Just a thought.

Iceland is a big geothermic pimple on the Earth's forehead. Very unstable. And Switzerland has its fair share of earthquakes, although they're usually just in the mountains and they're not too big. (But then they cause avalanches...another problem.)

Have you ever seen Bowling for Columbine? Moore shows a list of countries with low murder rates of guns. Canada was on there but i forget what the number is.

Also Montreal, like someone already suggested, has a low crime rate as well. People don't lock their doors there

Might want to try Grand Cayaman, they have a capitol city which rivals the wealth of New York. Of course, they have to rebuild there New York every summer because of those damn hurricanes. But a little bit of excitment is a good thing, right?

Guess there isn't any place in the world that is truly "safe." Have to choose the lesser of the evils.

What about Australia? I've known a few ppl to go there and they loved it. They seem to be out of most world-political crises and not many natural disasters depending on where in the country you are I guess.

New Zealand. I've never been, but I've heard it's incredible. Who knows, you might run into Frodo down there.
