Well done to Port, i'm so proud of those guys!

Port Adelaide still proving they are the most successful football club in Australia.

Port Adelaide district was in party mood last night, everyone eas out the front of there houses waving flags, beeping car horns, going crazy, was great to see.

We went down to Alberton last night to party with all the Port Adelaide ferals, great stuff!

How good was the game to watch though! Gotta love all the biff as well.

Bulldogs vs Roosters eh

Two best teams of the year will battle it out .. can't wait

Posted by A.J. on Sep-26-2004 11:20:

I hate both teams

Posted by Paulie on Sep-26-2004 11:31:

It still astounds me how they somehow figure to call the game rugbly league football Rugby league requires 0.000001% of the skill compared to soccer or AFL to play.

Posted by gumble on Sep-26-2004 12:09:

nah thats crap paulie.

afl = scrounging around over a ball.

it has no system really, no grace or style. thats why bogan teams like port adelaide win it

MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT

Posted by jizza on Sep-27-2004 00:25:

what the hell is everyone talkin about?

gumble: you're cool man but shut up.

rez: you're cool too but what the hell you talkin bout man? storm made the finals and won their way thru to be beaten by a better outfit. and brisbane can be as arrogant as they want, they've proven to be better than everyone else and history will probably tell us they may the best side EVER.

what the hell is everyone talkin about?

Posted by stamper on Sep-27-2004 02:38:

Who are the Roosters and the Storm??

p.s. Go Port!!

Posted by rez on Sep-27-2004 03:08:

obviously rugby aint as big in melb than it is in other states.

can someone fill me in on why there are two sets of rules, i find myself to be watching more and more rugby every year and i still dont understand the two diff leagues or series or whatever it was

Posted by JulesPLees on Sep-27-2004 05:03:

all I know is Union seems to be better to watch

Posted by JulesPLees on Sep-27-2004 05:16:

As for the AFL grand final...if there is one team I hate more than Brisbane, its port.

T'was tres' good to see Alistair Lynch realise he was injured and his career was over and totally lose the PLot on Wakelin's head.

Posted by A.J. on Sep-27-2004 06:11:

Rugby League is the game in NSW and Queensland, Rugby Union is for rich, private school tossers.....and people that like playing it.

As for the rest of Australia, well, they will never really understand the game. You grew up with one game, we grew up with another.

Yeah, bring on the cricket!!

Had an awesome footy season, now lets have an awesome cricket season to match!
Good luck to the Aussies in India - and the Redbacks, bout time you fellas did something.

Kiwis for the tests and Pakis and West Indies for the one dayers, should be a good season.

Rugby League was started as a rebellion against Rugby Union. They're two very different games, so it's understandable that you'd be confused if you weren't sure which game was which

Rugby Union is a much more open, but the rules are more detailed and more complex. Union tends to be fast and free flowing, though it can get bogged down. Union is the game where once someone gets tackled, they lie down on the floor and place the ball behind them. Once they do that, anyone (opponents included) is allowed to take it. That's why once a tackle is made, all the attacking forwards (big blokes) jump on top of the guy who got tackled, so that none of the opposition players can get at the ball. Union has no limit on the number of tackles before you have to hand over possession, you keep the ball as long as you can.

League on the other hand, is a much more repetitive game. You're only allowed six tackles before you have to hand over the ball, so there's much more structure involved. The rules aren't as complex as they are in Union, but there's still a lot of detail there. There's less running in a game of League than there is in Union, but it's probably a more physical contest.

I guess the simplest way to tell the games apart is to look at the scoreboard. If the scores are both an even number (eg 14 points vs 6 points), it's probably Rugby League. If the scores are both odd numbers (eg 21 points vs 7 points), it's probably Rugby Union.

Thus endeth teh lesson
