Let's Ban Heterosexual Marriage

quote:
To sum up, here are some of the things that straight-sex marriage has wrought through the ages: polygamy, child-brides, loveless arrangements, trafficked women, bartered wives, battered wives, raped wives, sexual slavery, child abuse and abandonment, racist miscegenation laws, and astronomical divorce rates. If gays are unqualified for marriage, what can we say about straights? If George Bush and his homophobic worshippers really want to defend the institution of marriage, they can begin by taking an honest look at the ugly situations within so many heterosexual unions in this country and throughout the world.

I don't think the "sanctity of marriage" argument is valid anymore - if we're going to ban homosexual marriages to preserve the institution, we'd better start banning heterosexual marriages as well based on this evidence. I recommend starting with celebrity marriages then working our way up from there.

Thoughts?

Agreed. Marriage doesn't mean anything so long as divorce exists, anyway.

I simply don't understand why people always think of marriage as some kind of a benefit. Years from now, if homosexuals ever smarten up, they'll praise the intolerance that prevented them from falling into such tortuous traps.

Fantastic thread. Might I add that monogamy is completely against human nature. I am a firm believer in fuckthedumbblondeandkickheroutofbedafter school of thought. Marriage is for suckers!

while we are at it, why don't we just arrange all marriages at birth?

Posted by PhloTron on Sep-28-2004 04:02:

and ban births/childbearing....

...all children will be cloned in a lab so they are perfect followers of a supreme authority.

Roll over, Orson Welles.

Marriage is only there becuase women go unbelievably crazy and loose all rational thought at the thought of it. And the sight of a ring tops it off.

Remove that and "getting married" wouldnt seem as fun

Well actually until the recent marriage releif tax cuts they paid more in taxes combined than they would if they were single. As for legal benefits I'm not entirely sure what benefit I could gain without a prenup. Meh the only good thing about marriage is that you can piggy back a spouse onto a medical plan or something.

Seems like someone is a little insecure in his sexuality - and in his argumentative capabilities as well, btw.

Yes, that's right -- anyone who supports same-sex marriage must be gay.
