Goin Down...

Anyone else noticing TA go slow/grind to a halt almost every day? Like, database errors and such. Or is it just me

There are just too many of us online

it does seem to be going slower than before and i do get some 'SQL database errors' or soemthign quite often. i dont know. sometimes it takes up to 4 minutes to load a thread, and i have 3 megabit internet cable connection

Yea, same thing over here too. Guess you just have to live with it when TA is as huge as it is.

Not exactly - I just upgraded hardware a few weeks ago.

Running a 64k chunk size on the raid array seems to have offered little performance increase over the 32k it was at before -- using thttpd (a lightweight webserver) to handle image loading (instead of relying on resource-heavy Apache) allows me to turn Keepalive on -- meaning that when you connect to the server to get an image it keeps that connection open knowing that you'll soon request more images - rather than closing it after serving 1 image and re-opening it for each subsequent request.

Now, by freeing up Apache in this way (which used to bottleneck with excessive image/database/page requests) I now have a situation where incoming forum requests (Threads/posts/searches) can be queued in a greater number -- thereby causing bottlenecks on the database end more frequently.

I'm gonna change a couple of other things tonight and see what happens, but that's it in a nutshell.

the internet has sucked ass since the year 2000

things are going uber slow on here today...last week has been pretty sluggish actually. which is disappointing cause for the couple days after swampie made some upgrades things were great...now were back into dial up speeds

Search is the problem - it KILLS everything.

So, for now, search results will be current as of 5AM (GMT -0500) that day - I'll look towards updating it so it has at most a 6 or 12 hour lag time.. we'll see how it goes - this is the easiest way to remove bottlenecking for now.

And yes, it's going damn slow. One minute and thirty seconds to go from page one to page two of this topic, on 4mbps.

Those are all non-factors, the slowdown comes from bottlenecking which occurs when the database is bogged down and can't send back results to the clients requesting them, meaning, hung web processes while people wait in their browsers to get the info they wanna see...

The downloads are load balanced across 4 servers and the unknown tracks section has mp3s streamed out (and they're small samples) so it is not a big deal...

Damn, that might be true. After I ran a search for my post whoring, the damn thing shut down for a minute. Swamper is the man.
