BEHRINGER DJX700 Mixer
I am currently saving for a Numark 5000fx mixer but they are not avaliable yet and I'm still short on the amount of cash I need anyway, so I have the opportunity to get a Behringer DJX700 for around 160 quid.
I have seen these advertised for around 200 quid so this looks like a bargain (it also comes with 12 months warranty) but all I have heard about behringer mixers is negative and for the prices they offer they must cut back somewhere.
Does anyone own one of these or used one (or any behringer mixer), first rate the sound quality, second the build quality and third the effects quality.
If the thing fcuks up I have the warranty to fall back on but if it sounds shit it is useless to me, so the sound output is the main issue.
Anyway I want a mixer with effects and at least 4 channels, so this is ideal. My plan would be to get this, keep it for a couple of months and then re-sell it once I have the rest of the cash I need for the 5000fx.
Thanks in advance Luke
Try doing a search in the forums for this info, there has been quite a lot of discussion recently, some of it quite useful.
I have just ordered a DJX 700 myself yesterday so it should be with me in a day or two at which point i will know, got it from digital village so I have 14 days to try it out and will return it if it doesn't perform well.
However I've used a Behringer mixing desk, and some outboard gear of theirs, for about 4 years for production and I have to say that I've had no problems with any behringer stuff.
Noise levels are low and the output sounds good even on bigger sound systems, I think the biggest it ran on was a 15k rig and it performed really well. I've run it for 5 days non stop 24 hours a day at high volumes at parties and it's a workhorse, I'm hoping the Dj mixer is built to the same standards.

Yes, if you think you've bought a DJM600 for less money you're wrong. The sound quality is poor (It shouldn't give lots of problems with a small amp though) and the effects just don't sound that good. But, besides that, it's a pretty good mixer for the money I guess...
if you're going for a 4channel, this would probably be a good mixer, depends on what you would use it for... bedroom mixing this may be a good choice but if you plan on taking it to parties and whatnot you may want to shoot for a different mixer
My girlfriends dad owns an instrument shop in Oklahoma and ive spoken to him about this particular mixer and he says the quality isnt all that great when compared with other similar mixers
i really wanted the DJM-5/600 but its gonna take me a while to save for that and im pretty impatient and i could really use an extra channel or two and i was really looking at this one and he said that for my money id be better off going with like a SMX-401 or a PCV-1/275 as far as quality goes
a friend of mine owns the 626 and when i first saw it i was really impressed by the looks and all but it turned out to be not all that great performancewise - one of the beatcounters was broken or something and never changed the readout, the upfader knobs came off too easy and had poor sound, the crossfader seemed to lower the output levels when crossing over which was very noticable. When comparing quality, my 2channel Gemsound mixer showed to be more reliable than the 626.
i dont think the 700 wouold be a bad choice depending on what it was used for, but IMO there are better mixers in the same price range
you guys should try the Behringer VMX-1000
ive had this mixer for about 7 months or so and i have to admid i did pay around 400 for it when it first came out but im really happy with it ive used it everywere and everyone who has used my mixer said that its better than alottttttt of mixers they used so . but hey if your buying a mixer for 160-200 you cant go wrong i mean use it untill you get your new mixer than sell it if not sell it keep it as back up or something but behringer makes good quailty stuff ive not had one probelm with there stuff yet yeah i know there going to be bashing about this bring it on lool
I've used behringer eurorack mixers in the past, and for the $$$ there not all that bad. However, ive heard lots of bad stuff about the quality of their dj mixers. If i was you, i wouldn't be to concerned w/ a four channel mixer unless your planing to mix 4 or so sources at once or need all of the extra inputs. (btw, if you got two tt's and two cd decks, you still should have enough inputs on a two channel mixer)
Also, the effects on cheap mixers are pretty bad to say the least. You would be much happier w/ a vestax pcv-275 and a Alesis Ineko.
I am not fond of the Pioneer, but I am DEFINETLY anti-Behringer. Why? I will tell you.
As you all know I work at the DJ section in a music store where we sold a lot of this mixer when it was released (called a hype). So far, almost EVERY sold product is returned for issues.
- The faders are OVERSENSITIVE to dust. They are bound to crack! If you ignore my post and still want to buy one, better buy a can of pressurized air with them! You'll need it!
- Internally they are NOT the kind of mixers you want to work with. You'd have to be a fool to work at Behringer's technical service, because the build up really sucks.
- Do NOT get surprised if your right and left volume of a channel (or even the master) gets COMPLETELY messed up.
As I said I don't like the Pioneer either, but I wouldn't call it a mixer full of shit (which I call a lot of mixer). However, THIS mixer DEFINETLY is full of shit.
Secondly DO NOT COMPARE BEHRINGER'S DJ MIXER WITH EURORACKS! Euroracks are pretty decent budget producermixers, but their DJ mixers suck ass!
there's an old saying.. it goes something like this .. "you get what you pay for"
Jay
Oh, and I am totally happy with my DJM-600 , although i have only tried a handfull of other mixers, this is definitly my choice of mixer so far.. I am still waiting to try a A&H or a rane.

I had a play on one of these not too long ago.
If your buying it for the fx, then forget it. They are terrible. It's meant to have a beat matching feature like the pioneer DJM-3000/600/500 but it just doesn't work at all. The sounds of the effects are very tinny and some of them just didn't seem to have much effect on the sound.
I didn't like the feel of the faders either. They seemed kind of loose and jiggly.
The EQs didn't seem terribly strong, but it does have kill switches which is a nice bonus on a mixer this cheap. THey were fun to play with.
If you get it, bear in mind your only getting what you pay for. =)
I always say play safe if you're gonna buy cheap...
But from an authorised dealer so you have warranties etc if anything is wrong. It seems the biggest issue after sound quality with budget gear is the build quality, if you aren't impressed send it back and get something else.

i started a thread about this and eventually i bought a DJM-300. you cant really sacrifice on quality for price.
Sounds like these things aren't up to much then. I'm not gonna bother with it if the sound quality is poor, as the mixer I have at the minute is very good in that department I just wanted to some effects till I have the cash for 5000fx and for 160 quid this sounded ok.
Oh well looks like I'm gonna have to put in some overtime over the next 2 months and save the money I need, anyway thanks for the feedback I always wondered why they where so cheap lol.

yeah definitely save your money. the behringer djx700 is a god-awful attempt at a budget djm500 which simply doesn't work. the effect time parameters are pre set, and do not go any higher than about 139bpm, which totally sucks if you like any pace in your sets. but even if you don't its still annoying that you can't actually change it. and then theres the fact that you have to bloody memorise what all the program numbers are, useless for quick access to any effect.
i went for the vestax pcv275 + effects unit option, that works great. the numark 5000fx looks sweet, but i will reserve my judgement until i have had a play
okay well a mate of mine has got this mixer and i now own a DJM600...
the EQ dosnt compar the my DJM..
the effect dont compar to my DJM..
and faders and what not are great...
the plusses its a great 5 channel mixer if you on a budget okay... but its nothing the DJM500/600 the... most of the effects dont work... though the ones that do dont sound great but they are okay for what you paid for...
all in all if your on a budget go for it give it a try, if you dont like it just return it you know... though its nothing to a DJM if thats what your expecting to buy from the DJX700
Ive had my DJX-700 since it was released in Sweden and it sucks, really.
It used to rock my world (going from a Numark 1001X) but time really shows that this isnt quality, its crap.
* The faders are loose and are impossible to operate in a controlled manner.
* The effects are worthless, many of them are based on a fixed BPM, like echo and delay.
* Two of my channels are now leaking into all others.
* The effects knob is all but okay, seems to miss the channel selections.
* The volume faders are not precise for a mile, you have to crank it up to atleast 5 or 6 on the scale to even hear anything.
Dont buy it, honestly.
Or buy mine.
I own a DJX700...Perfect sound quality when you dont crank the damn trim all the way up...Decent effects past #40 but theres no speed control like on the DJM600, I've had it for almost 2 months now, no problems, nothings breaking and no wear. I'd say go for getting it
Just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. I had one of these 700's and here were the problems that I found: The faders didn't really pick anything up until around 6 or 7 and the effects BPM ranges were way too slow (or low).
Sure you get it home, open the box, and say "Just like a DJM600" After about an hour you say "Well, at least it looks like a DJM600".
Bottom line: Looks pretty fancy in your room if your on a budget. Just don't think your buying a carbon copy of the Pioneer because it ain't the same.
But hey, just spin some tunes and you'll figure it out.
PIECE OF SHIT MIXER DO NOT BUY. i've had one for a year and have had quite a few problems. FIrst i get a buzzing sound in my recordings. I tried eliminating the ground loop but that did nothing to fix the problem. Second one of my channel faders are starting to go. It would only play the left channel until i used some compressed air to remove the dust. The effects unit is shit. Simply stated, you can do alot better with the amount of money you are going to spend on this piece of garbage. Save your money and get something decent that you can resell should you decide that djing is not for you.
had mine for about a year, thought it was good at first, but lately i notised how crap it sounds, the eq's r fucking awfull, the worst ive heard on a mixer, n ive played on alot of them. so i decided to get my old citronic msx1 mixer out the loft and it pissed all over the behringer, i had to modyfy my mixing so much for the djx cus of ths shit eq's its ridulas. im not bothed about the cash ive whasted, im bothered about the year ive whasted whist using it, its a total piece of shit and i have NOTHING good to say about it. PLEASE please wait for the mixer u wanted at first. its bound to be a hell of alot better. for ur own sake please dont buy this. its for ur own good.
Adam
i don't understand why so many people flame this mixer. i've had one for almost a year now, and it's still as good as the day i bought it. none of my faders are cracking or leaking into different channels, sound quality is not as awful as every one makes it out to be, and i'm not running to bad an audio setup either...i don't have a buzzing sound in my recordings as many other TAs have reported as being a problem. i was using a numark for a little while before this, and my mixing style has changed because of a new mixer...
i will agree with some of the critiques though...
the EQs and the channel faders are not linear, they're almost exponential, i.e. you have to really turn it up (past 7 on my mixer) to be able to hear the record. but you have to realize that the behringer gives you a -32db kill on the same knob as a +12db gain for each range of the EQ, that's bound to make it non-linear. you just have to be gentler with the EQs and know the limits of the mixer. i cannot however offer an excuse for the channel faders, those are just outright pathetic, a little bit more control would've been nice.
also the effects unit is not entirely useless, although any of the effects regarding the tempo directly are worthless, some of the other effects can still be used very nicely.
maybe i'm also partial cuz i got the mixer for dirt cheap, $160 brand new at the local guitar center...or the fact that i like to keep everything around my setup clean, i dust everything atleast once every two weeks with a little swiffer sheet to get rid of all the dead skin and dirt that ends up on the equipment.
one problem that i have noticed that not many people mention here is a problem with overheating. constant use of the effects unit or prolonged use of the mixer in a single session (4-5 hours) causes the effects unit to overheat. This might not even matter much, but the effects unit is located right by the sound out and the extra heat causes some loss of sound quality.
