Don't say anything at all, it's all about personal tastes and you won't get anything good arguing about that.

My friends always used to say that shit to me, so I made them each listen to a trance track, for most of them I picked Andain - Summer Calling (Airwave Rmx) and now pretty much all of them understand it much more and aren't ignorant about it. People just dont have enough exposure to it, they just think of the few tracks that have made it really big on radio and base everything on that.

Posted by Boomer187 on Sep-29-2004 16:57:

I saya to thems, "Alright"

but really, none of my friends say that. They all have open minds, they don't like it, but they don't question it.

My good ol' daddy dearest always taught me one thing. When you hear a dog bark, ignore it. If he draws near to bite, then kick him in the balls.
Just feign indifference to all those people who have nothing better to do then criticize other people about their tastes.
If they nag you too much..kick them in the balls.
Btw, if it's a bitch then avoid kicking in the general groin area.
A bitchslap will suffice.

I usually just do my Kuato impersonation and say, "Open your miiiiiiiiiind..."

Posted by SteveTranz4ever on Sep-29-2004 17:27:

Give the person the exact same questions back... It's not your fault they have bad taste of music

Some of my friends thinks that techno and some trance sound like a wrecked locomotive.... hehe... but I think his R'n'fukkin'B sounds like crap

Posted by NiteMer on Sep-29-2004 17:47:

Don't give a shit what they think. Ask them what they listen to and figure a way to rip on that too (if it really irritates you). I would just ignore them. But it is funny, if they listen to something like Country.

Get a vinyl by yoji biomehanika, turn your amp up on your decks, cup a hand around your ear and ask him to speak up. Nob ends cant be heard over the ridiculous basslines in hardstyle...
If that fails, offer them some coke.

i tell my 'rap' driven friends:

'yo man, chill, i don't say shit about the crap you listen to'

always works

Posted by sleepydragon on Sep-29-2004 19:49:

why do u give a toss?
u clearly let the smallest things stress u out i would just sort of laugh with em bout it and walk of whats the big deal

I once told someone that non-vocal trance is better than most vocals-laden pop/metal/rap songs about angst, loneliness, estrangement, etc etc where the singer tells us how he/she's searching for an identity...a feeling of belonging and so on and so forth...and it just so happens that singers like these are very successful, popular multi-millionaires and it kinda makes you wonder what makes them sing their songs of insecurity and alienation.

"The music u listen to is boring because the intro haves 2 minutes..."

RESPONSE: "You need an intro to english... "haves"."

Posted by Tranc3 on Sep-29-2004 21:17:

Why should another person's opinions bother you this much?

Posted by itsTrueSonic on Sep-29-2004 21:51:

you could always say ..

" i'm sorry that your mama dropped you on your ears when you were younger, causing you to be musically deficient. "

" i'm sorry that you had to grow up in the slums and listen to ghetto rap all your life. "

or you can always ask "if you don't like trance, yet you like classical music, are you dissing the music you like, because trance and classical music are almost at the same lines, when we are talking about style of songs? (exclude the progressive stuff, because they don't come in the lines of classical music)

Simply tell them

There is no point arguing about matters of taste

Posted by ASOT100 on Sep-30-2004 01:26:

i say "holy crap ur right, i listen to crappy, repetitive music that all sounds the same, i'm such an idiot"

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-30-2004 03:23:

When you really think about it, doesn't everything taste like chicken anyways?

I was once confronted by some kids about my trance-listening ways. When they asked me why I liked it and proceeded to tell me that "ANYBODY can make a techno song on their computer in just a few minutes" (oldest fallacious cliche in the book of trance) I replied with "well what kind of music do you listen to?" For some reason, that shut em all up - I guess they were at a loss for words in the presence of such Trance!

But really - most of what people seem to want to listen thesedays ('pop' music by definition of 'POPular') consists of boring crap written by people who don't know dick about music. With trance, it's universal - it takes serious talent to make an electronic song sound really good and it takes even more talent to make one that people will find catchy and want to dance to. It doesn't matter what language you speak when it comes to trance - you don't need to understand what the song is trying to convey without words - it's open to interperetation and isn't limiting the listener to how somebody feels sad because their girl left them forever (or whatever crap you can think of to touch the hearts of young teenage school-girls). Most people who listen to trance, I mean really LISTEN, will come to understand something more about what makes us tranceaddicts tick - how many other kinds of music unite people in such a way?

Thats exactly what i said. Not enough exposure. I really know how it feels cause i live in redneck capital, USA and all they listen too is country or they ride around trying to be Gs
