Your Level of Music Education

Just wondering what sort of musical education TAs have...

I have received no formal music education, though i have tried to educate myself abit on theory and playing some guitar.. So i'm not a total music n00b..

hm yes, some stuff about reading paper music and some classical therms about that. i never really understode that and neither did any of my classmates (not that they cared :rolleyes oh, and i ended up infront of the class explaining the others what a 3/4 and a 4/4 rythm was as the teacher couldn't...

instruments, only xylophone

nice poll tribu ppl should be taught more about music imo (or atleased be offered a choice to some proper classes via school)

I play guitar to grade 6 standard, play some keyboard, and I've got a decent knowledge of keys, scales etc (mostly self-taught or learned through guitar)

At the moment, I'm doing advanced higher music as one of my classes at school. That's as hard as it gets before you're talking about university level music...

I've been trying to play drums and guitar just for fun. Drums was really fun, but the guitar was horrible.
I did take some home-educational piano lessons though. It lasted a month, then I had no time for it anymore. It was quite fun though.

"I received minor to intermediate instruction in playing an instrument, but no theory"

i.e. I played a couple of crappy instruments at school.

I try to make my own *cough* "music", but I wouldn't say I know much/anything about music theory...

i dont know. i was a trumpet band nerd from 4th to 10th grade

I was only in music class for about a year in 6th & 7th grade. And it was just the basics. I never went to any other classes though. Most of what i know is from teaching myself. I am trying to get this girl to teach me how to play a piano though. Maybe she will one day?

I have minor to intermediate education in both Music theory and in playing an instrument

Hardly any, but still I make my own music. TAKE THAT, INCOMPETENT MUSIC TEACHER!

piano lessons for 6 years, independant guitar study for the past year or two (self-taught), and first in my class in AP music theory in high school
so i put advanced and advanced
but i can't make a half decent dance drum look for shite, so see where all that got me

I have received minor to intermediate education in music theory, but have no experience playing an instrument

I played the violin (seven years), and the bass (string and guitar, five years). I stopped, because my HS conductors for both orchestra and jazz band felt that music should come first in life, even before my family.

They both went into extensive detail to teach us, and my jazz conductor taught us a bit of theory.

"I have intermediate to extensive education in both Music theory and in playing an instrument" - I almost got a professional certificate at a local conservatory, but then school took too much of my time and I quit
