Pros and cons of buying an iPod

Planning to get an Ipod . Feedback?

Posted by starglider on Oct-01-2004 02:04:

Con: ridiculous price tag.

Posted by beats and beeps on Oct-01-2004 02:07:

Con: ipod? what are you? a fucking lemming?

I mean its a fine mp3 player, but certainly not the best, or cheapest. Theres alternatives with a way better bang for the buck. They dont have shadows dancing like morons to horrible music though

Edit: apologies for my foul mood. I sort of developed a huge thing against ipod ever since theyre commercials have been driving me insane...

WTF!!

Posted by Azz3D on Oct-01-2004 02:58:

I think Mp3 players would be useless for most people on here
I mostly listen to livesets, and can you use cue files effectively on the MP3 player? Didn't think so. IF there is a way, please let me know... thanks!!!!!

Until then I'll stick to my good old cd player

I've been thinking of getting one too. I wouldn't think twice about buying one, if the price was but $150 cheaper.

Penny Arcade rules all.

pros: the standard to beat
all reviews have said nothing beats it yet
it's like the SL-1200 of mp3 players

In that case im waiting for Vestax to release an mp3 player

I got an iPod about two years ago, and about a year before that got a Creative Nomad (one of the original ones).

Pro: One of the best MP3 players - let's not f00k around here, it's one of the best. The user interface design is wonderful. They've made it amazingly easy to navigate to whatever track you want to listen to, even if you've got thousands on your iPod. Don't discount the user interface; for a portable device it's vitally important.

Con: $$$$$. It's Apple. You'll be paying outta yer butt

Posted by biznology on Oct-01-2004 06:13:

Pros, looks typically apple, lets rich people pretend that money can fix all problems.

Cons, my sisters is dying less than 1 year after purchase from Shanghai China. My iriver came from China AND it included ALL the necessary extras|

I'm confused... why did you start a whole other thread on the same topic?

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=212017

it's still on the first page......

Posted by TuanAnh213 on Oct-01-2004 07:30:

screw the ipod

buy a Creative Nomad Muvo...the same amount of storage as a miniipod except 50 bucks cheaper

the ipod right now is nothing more than a fad...it's gotta be an ipod right? everything else not named an ipod must suck

Posted by Lil-H on Oct-01-2004 11:19:

Yeah, I know.. It so cool to own an Ipod, cause its sleek looking, and small and cute and I got the money to buy one. And Creative's Zens series is not cool. HELL NO!!!

Creative got it all, I'm telling you (for a much cheaper price too) and more storage compared with apple. Have you even looked at Zen Touch? Personally I want to destroy my Nx, cause I think the Touch is a pure beauty, but thats only me

To that dude playing some .cue files or something: What do you mean? Like rip a live set to divided tracks or something? Get "MusiCutter" at least it'll do if you want to cut normal albums...

i have an mp3 cd player...had it for a year and it is awesome...i take it to the gym and it falls and get kicked and it withstands the test of time..2 duracell batteries will last a loooong time..and i buy a cd-rw that i keep rerecording on...total cost 40 bucks..lasted more than a year so far

Posted by DjSimonB on Oct-01-2004 14:59:

Pro's: holds lots of music at once, not like a CD or MD where you need to change discs, looks nice, will get you attention (at least here, if someone has an Ipod everyone crowds round when they pull it out)

Con's: costs lots of money, not that good for livesets, no line-in as far as I know (might not matter to you though), if you're using 128k the sound quality won't be that good. Then again that might not matter to you either, if you're not like me and fussy about quality.

Just split the liveset into smaller mp3 files (each file being one song)...

The iPod's not perfect but it's the best Hard Drive Based player out there. The Cowon iAudio M3 comes close but it doesn't have a screen on the player! The iRiver HP140 has the storage and features but it's slow (a friends iRiver takes it about 5 minutes to boot when it is full!!!) and costs just as much as the iPod. Creative's Nomad gives you the most gig's per dollar but from reading reviews about it, I think you get what you pay for.

iPod PROS:
-The ipod is one of the best players for live sets. Aside from the storage, you can effortlessly navigate through huge sets in seconds using the click wheel.
-although the interface gets a little time to get used to, it allows for easy and fast navigation through 1000s of songs
-No more burning CDs! In seconds I can download music to my iPod which I can then play anywhere, through the stereo downstairs, my computer at work, on the radio in my car through a HARDWIRED FM transmitter...
-The 5 star rating application is also worthwhile--I just download tracks to my ipod, rate them on the go, and get rid of the ones I don't want. This way I can screen my recent downloads quickly and whereever I want (not just on my computer).
-stores about 500 high quality CDs (40 GB) and is the size of a standard wallet

iPod CONS:

-$$$
-only compatible with iTunes
-a little too bulky to take to the gym (stick with flash based players)
-battery life (although improved, a warranty is still a must if you're buying an ipod)
-font (takes a little time to get used to, apple should make the font smaller)
-scratches too easily
