Ignore feature.

Is it possible to set up the ignore feature to include the first post by someone.

For example, I don't want to see a certain somebodies threads at all. Or possibly, if I have that person on Ignore, I would just like to see, This thread was created by someone on your Ignore list.

I am so sick of this person's posts that it just infuriates me reading the subjects he comes up with and usually there is like 5 on the first page of my local forum.

i don't read their posts they are on ignore.

i don't want to read anything by them. not even the subjects of the threads if they posted first. it pisses me off to no end.

i dont hate u at all, i just get exasperated talking to you. u dont seem to grasp any concept of anything when we spoke. in the end after pulling most my heads hair out, i gave up, thus why u think i hate u.

PS. Del, better know who I'm talking about. But this person hasn't posted a new thread this week, unless the ignore feature is fixed to my liking.

And no, it's not the ignore, I think the person in question has just been too "busy"... ha ha

I always wanted to be able to do a total ignore instead of the watered-down version VB has, but from a programming perspective I think it would be pretty bloody hard. Then again, nothing's impossible...

I don't think it should be that hard. Every time a thread or group of threads is retrieved from the database it must retrieve the username of the thread starter of each thread in order to display that column on the forum table.

So the each "row" result of the query probably contains a field like 'thread_starter.' It would be pretty easy to simply compare that field to the contents of the logged in user's ignore list and not echo the row of information if a match is found.

The only problem I see is that the algorithm probably retrieves a constant number of threads and displays them, so if you had ignored threads in the bunch it might display fewer threads on a page than it otherwise would. This could be avoided by repeating the querying process until threadsperpage threads have been displayed, but this would place additional stress on the database which may not be worth it.

both cases shouldn't be a problem i think? most users should have very few people (none even) in their ignore list, so the aditional stress to the database wouldn't be big. also it isn't a huge thing that less threads would show up. maybe the best solution should be some message like "ignored thread" in the place of it
