I live about three hours (I think) away from it. Been all over the news lately.

Great fun.

yea we've heard quite a lot about it here too, it's quite freeky considering wat it did in the '80's.

I'm about 70 miles SW of it and I think all this eruption shit is cool. Everyone is all paranoid about it, but I think it's awesome. EXPLODE DAMNED MOUTAIN!!!!

i live about 2 hours away and i got all excited for a lil plume of smoke and ash.

Posted by Derosas on Oct-04-2004 05:52:

everyone is trippin like y2k or something. I doubt anything big will happen, but it would be cool to experience something like that. Nothing ever happens in the NW

It's kinda cool that people in the UK and Australia know about this...

its about 150 miles from where i live the news outlets have been been doing stories for a week and a half straight now. kinda gets old listening to same old shit all the time. good thing nobody lives by it, and wont be badly affected, so why not just let it be and report when it does blow

yeah its awesome and all but seriously you do NOT want to be around when it happens....fall-out made it halfway across the country in 1980 and pyroclastic flows reached about 30kms or so travelling hundreds of m/sec...

No kidding, my dad helped clean up the FOOT AND A HALF of ash in my little town when it went up last time. I guess I'm just bored with the NW. Nothing ever happenes.

Posted by getfoul on Oct-05-2004 17:02:

i've heard that another mtn in the NW, Hood, Baker or adams, is starting to have tremors too. Does anyone have any more info on this rumor?

Hahaha, that made me laugh out loud. I just pictured Clov with his cam in hand on Orbax's back while he's running up the side of Mount Helens...

Their was a 2.4 at Hood on Sunday I think. They said that it was most likely unrelated to Helens, and that it was a one time event.

My grandma lives in Hood River, and from her place you can see Hood perfectly, if it were to blow in their direction, they would be fuuuuucked.

I can see Baker really good from where I am in Everett. Doubt it'll ever blow, but I imagine we'd get a ton of ash.

Yep, I live in Seattle too. Even the 1980 St. Helens eruption was only a 5 out of 8 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI). They're expecting a 2-3 at most this time around. I do NOT want to see an 8. Krakatoa was a 6, Tambora a 7... and there hasn't been an 8 for recorded human history...
