What do you think of this system?
I'm about to buy a system for production and I'm limited in the budget (~2700$), so here what I was planning:
SYSTEM
Athlon64 3200+
Asus K8V-SE Deluxe
2x 512 MB OCZ PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum with Enhanced Bandwidth
Antec SLK3700BQE 350W case
LG 16X DVD writer 4160B
ATI Radeon 9600XT (No need for a more powerful videocard, I'm not a gamer)
Maxtor 80 GB ATA 8 MB (System drive, I already own it from my current system)
Western Digital 160 GB S/ATA 8 MB (Audio drive)
Mitsubishi DiamondPro 930SB 19" CRT (I already own it from my current system)
SOUNDCARD
M-Audio Delta 44 (I'll be fully virtual, no space for racks of equipment, so a 4/4 card is more than enough)
MIDI CONTROLLER
M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 (I insist on having a piano-like keyboard with hammer action keys, for synth-type of keyboard I could get a small and cheap two octave keyboard later on)
STUDIO MONITORS
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 (I know they are not studio monitors but I'm sure they'll do better than cheap monitors, plus I already own them... Proper monitors will come later on.)
I definately need the new computer, my current one is too weak (P3-500), can't even run the demo song of FruityLoops
I'm going AMD because it's definately cheaper than going Intel, plus from all the benchmarks I saw its also more powerful.
Later on I plan on getting a DSP card (probably the TC|PowerCore with the Access Virus plug-in
)
What do you think of this setup? Any advices or suggestions?
Slipstream
sounds sweet
I own the mother board and have had no problems running protools and reason. Antec cases are great too. Many people here have recommended the soundcard so I think you won't be disapointed. Sounds like a good investment
if you aren't a gamer then why are you getting a 9600xt?

Looks good performance wise, but you're probably going to have issues with the actualy computer being too lound (AMD = Loud, it's unavoidable). Having a vacuum cleaner next to u isnt fun when you're trying to make music
Have a look into things like this (Prices AUD) :
