Vestax PCV 275, Balanced Outs?
Does anyone know if the vestax PCV 275 1/4" inch outs are balanced?
I ask beacuse i plan on using a 1/4" TRS to XLR cable out of each side, each into a mackie SRM450. I'm told these have "thrus" on them, so from there, they go to a pair of 18" subs, which also have "thrus". then the signal (crossover so not sending the really low stuff any more) into an amp which will be driving our main speakers a pair of dual 15"s.
My question is, will the mixer be able to handle that? is the signal going to degrade? am I going to need to do this some other way, ie run into a proper mixing board with multiple outs or something?
we aren't running any long runs or anything, all within 10 feet of the mixer or so, but still, i am worried.
the sound guy said it should work, but that it would be good if the 1/4" outs were balanced, and to be honest, i don't know if they are. in fact, i doubt it, since balanced has 3 pins right, and it looks like these only have two.
I looked online for a manual and found one, but it doesn't say, anybody know?
no its not balanced. I don't see any problems with that. My understanding is that thats really just for noise cancellation and a 10ft run, as long as you aren't using crappy cables, shouldn't be introducing much, if at all, noise.
OK, good to know.. a picture says a thousand words, here is what i plan on doing:
you think this will work?
the reason for the 2 mixers is so the scratch DJs can have a go too.
I can't speak on how or if the signal will degrade being passed through like that. Thats where you have to trust the sound guy. It does look feasible though. Maybe someone with some more experience will chime in.
the pcv-275 doesn't have any balanced outputs.
the problem with using any unbalanced outputs on large systems, is that any tiny humm at all is amplified 1000 times on the high wattage amp.
so long as you keep cable length to a minimum, try and make sure no RCA/interconnect wires go across too many (if you can totally avoid it, do) power cables and make sure you ground one of the decks on the 2nd mixer. the 275 has 2 grounding points, you have 3 decks on the list, and its best to totally avoid any chance of a grounding fuck-up by doing that
my only question is, are these mackies made with built-in amps? the signal from he mixer will be too weak to drive them other-wise..?
definitely run everything over with the sound guy
yes, the mackies are self amped, as are the subs. the dual 15"s aren't but that is why there is an amp in between them.
the subs also have a built in crossover.
good tip about grounding one deck to the other mixer, thanks!
that is an awesome diagram! hahah i couldnt help but laugh, i made one of those the other day for my friends setup!
