Sequel to Bloodsport

Apparently they are presently filming a sequel to the 1987 action movie "Bloodsport" called KUMITE.. Van Damme will still be the main character, and the same big chineese guy will be there too

looks promessing

Coincidentially, I was watching the first movie last night on SpikeTV. Shoulda just popped the DVD in, but I was too lazy

They had an article on it in the July 2004 issue of Black Belt magazine... last I checked, they were actually still looking to recruit talent for the film - provided you submitted a demo reel, height, weight, etc...

From the article:

"They realize this film has the potential to revitalize the martial arts industry the way The Karate Kid did in the 1980s"

I can't wait!

I'm most elated that they're actually making a new, big martial arts film with hopes of revitalizing the industry - movies like The Matrix really did not impress me as I knew that the poshy actors had been working hard and training for *gasp!* a whole 9 MONTHS! Movies like Kumite reflect people's ability gained from an entire life-time of Martial Arts training - it's a beautiful thing.

Perhaps you're thinking of 'Kickboxer' and 'Kickboxer 2'?

This is my post from the above thread: But seriously now. If you guys google "Frank Dux" and "Kumite" you will find out that the Dux guy is a total fraud. He was claiming he won the Congressional Medal of Honor at one point, till he found out it's a federal offense to claim to have won it. But ya, the Frank Dux guy is a nut job.

this guy is actually better than van damme since he has actual martial arts training. He was also in Matrix reloaded. He was the agent who fought Morpheus on top of the semi

Van Damme was a martial arts champion in Europe for his day - if I remember correctly, he took home several first place medals in the 70s for European opens and the like. He moved to the USA to make movies while still maintaing his training - sure, he's been out of the tournament competetion circuit for a long time, and would probably get pwned by all the XMA whores out there these days (I say the with the utmost respect ) but I think he's a very talented martial artist nonetheless. Have you ever seen him do a jump-spin hook kick? It's at like, 6 feet! (that's pretty good considering you have to jump high and put your hips in the right position) He's no Hee-Il Cho, but van Damme knows his stuff methinks.

van Damme has always been a screen-presence first-off, whether you like him or not - that's his objective. So naturally, he's going to want to look good and buff - too much muscle mass can sometimes lead to him looking stiff in his movements I suppose, but he's still got very well-formed kicks. (TKD critic here )

He's not the greates at anything, but there are very few who are... it's just a matter of watching and enjoying - as with all of van Damme's movies.

That picture is from Bloodsport 2: The Next Kumite, which was released in 1996. The threadstarter is not talking about the same movie.
