To all the people in Canada, this is why we (SIGNUM) didn't show up in Canada (Plush)

To all the people who came up to Plush (Vancouver), and did not see us.....

Every once in a while, you find yourself in a situation, that everything that can go wrong, will go wrong! Here's what happened to us last weekend.
We were booked for the opening-night @ Plush, a club in Vancouver (2-10-2004), to play a 2 hour set (01.00-03.00 PM). We were really excited to go over there again, cause it had been quite a while since our last visit to canada (which went wrong as well).

Anyway we arrived @ Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, to fly to London-Heathrow, once we had checked in, we had a 1 hour delay, so far so good (cause a 1 hour delay is not the worst that can happen in this situation). After arriving in London we had to transfer to another terminal for our connecting flight. Our flight (Air Canada) was suppose to leave @ 16.15 PM........Once it had reached that time, there still was nothing on the info-screens, except to wait in the lounge.......Finally 1 hour later a message was given, that the flight had been delayed till 18.15 PM........So we kept on waiting & continue with being bored......Another message was given.........and guess what?, delayed till 19.00 PM.

So far we had allready lost 3 hours waiting! Normally when you have to wait that long, you'll get some info on what has happened.......but no! Finally around 20.00 PM the message was given, that we could start boarding........WOOHOO.......Our thought on this was, that we would still be able to make our gig in time.......Big relief, but It still took another full hour to check in all the passengers..... So @ 21.00 hours we could finally take off!

Finally in the air, a announcement was made that they were very sorry for the delay, and that they had experienced some technical difficulties (whatever that means).
Completely tired and f***ed up from all the waiting, they came up with the most hillarious message of the whole day, which was, that the crew/captains had exceeded their official working time, and therefor we had to make a pit-stop in Toronto, where they would switch crews/captains, re-fuel and let us wait for another hour............Yipeekayee!!!

At this point we had come to the horrible conclusion, that our worst nightmare had come true, and the whole trip was useless........there was no way, we could play anymore @ the club!!! Well Done Canada Air!!!!. The whole trip to Vancouver had cost us 12 Hours in total, and we finally arrived @ 04.00 AM.........., completly nackered to the max!!!

And once you think you've had it all, there's allways that thing called "Customs & Migration" (now we understand how they came up with the word migraine), and yet another obstacle in our nightmare was added. Since we live in Holland, every other country you go to, custums look @ you, like your the dealer, whom they are willing to catch so badly.....So we spend another hour, being questioned about a lot of bullshit & almost stripsearched.....Untill we finally could go outside, smoke a cigarette, with the knowledge that we had to go back again in 8 hours.......

But rest assured, we will be back in November, we'll leave a couple a days earlier, so that even if we have this shit again, you'll won't notice it.......hahaha. We will also play an extended set, to make it up 2 you all, and give you a night to remember..!!!

I really like the part where they had to make a stop to change the flight crew...seriously...wtf! Worst service ever!

it's the law though. When the french had airstrikes last year, the crew on one plane I was due to fly on had to fly uk -> Mallorca via german airspace, taking an extra hour, then fly back the same way, then fly out to Ireland and down to Fuerteventura at 4.5 hours, we literally had 15 mins to get on the plane when it had landed and have it all loaded up else we'd have been grounded until a new crew could be found, we made it in the nick of time, but the laws are there for safety reasons and you can totally understand it, esp when the crew of this flight I was on had flown for 10 hours nearly when they picked us up, that's a long time to concentrate, making it nearly a 14 hour day in total for them, I envy them for being able to do that

I don't live in Vancouver, but it is still appreciated to see when a DJ tries to explain for something like this. Totally not your fault. Air Canada is just a big cock-up from the beginning. You guys are awesome, btw... saw you at Global Gathering 2002 and it was amazing. Hopefully you guys can make your way here to Edmonton, Canada soon.

when i flew from london with these fckers in june, my plane was delayed by 2.5 hours, yet we still made it on time, somehow

pascal and ron, we completely understand the situation and by all means we are pissed off at air canada really sorry it had to happen like this. i guess this was a nice trip to come visit our hotels and sign a few autographs heh at least the day was a nice one when you came thru

funny how you guys were held up at the dumbass customs too. when niklas harding flew in in august, he also spent an hour at the customs. why the airport chooses to waste their time interrogating OK people instead of checking for trouble passangers, is byond me, maybe they are really bored at the vancouver airport

tight schedhules are bad, i hate them..because if you have like a 1hr delay or something it makes you stress on a flight...and just worrying about getting to your gig!

and you wonder why Air Canada just emerged from chapter 11. They have the worst customer service in the history of airplanes. My father used to travel the world for his company, some years ago and he said Air Canada always delayed him and he was a Canadian coming back into the country. That ever happens again, threaten to sue, the government hates big deals being raised the government. Our customs is always on high alert and BC is always a problem. Life is a bitch....

i have never had problems with customs *knock on wood* i've flown in from germany before, from holland, from england, and i was fine. maybe its my innocent tired face that i put on before getting out of the plane

signum, you are great, but how about a trip out to hawaii? we never get anybody out here and its a pain to travel to the mainland.

Wow. That sucks. But please don't be afraid to come back to Canada... our airline service is absolutely nothing like the rest of our country!

Normally I wouldn't read such a long post, but that one was definitely entertaining! I think it's great that you guys joined TA just to post that message. Maybe we will be seeing more of you around here.

customs use pretty simple process for picking people out to cehck up on. obviously where you come from is part of it, looking nervous or trying to rush through, as you might be doing if you're really late for something, is a pretty good one.
I get picked on a bit cos I usually work stupid hours when i'm away, catch overnight flights home and look like shit. Telling them to fuck off cos it was a crap flight is usually enough to convince them i'm not a problem.

Feel sorry for everyone involved here. For the people who showed up and didn't see who they wanted to see, and for the Signum guys who had a massive journey for no reason at all. Oh well, hopefully no hiccups next time...

No worries pascal and ron, like someone said before, just the fact that you guys came on here to explain yourself, which you didn't even need to do, is very cool. Still sucks things didn't work out tho cause I like everyone else was really lookin forewards to it... oh well, see you in November. Sorry your attempted visit to Vancouver wasn't that enjoyable at all. lol and why not, you ever need a ride to/from the airport in an exotic car, gimme a call... 817-nico hahahah

I only got one thing to say Schipol airport is fucking huge
