Angry READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR TRACKS

originally posted on the GU forums by CP Recordings:

"dont know if this has been said yet..but check out www.jetgroove.com

they seem to have tracks up for download that they have not signed..
please check for ur label on there..and take the necessary action..!!"

here is a link to the original thread on GU:

http://www.globalunderground.co.uk/...opic.php?t=8527

from the looks of it, they are grabbing tracks off of soulseek and other such sources and trying to sell them.

EDIT: changed the original link above to the correct one so people don't need to scroll. this is an important issue.

I am stickying this for all producers, both professional and amateur to see. Fight back!

Angry

Fucking ****s, they've got our tracks there.

I've made a few labels aware of this and asked them, did they do this. I'm sure a few did not license their shit or they would have told me about it. We shall see but if they got it wrong, expect a ton of lawsuits to be filed.

I hope they have music listed from the big 5 (who I hate) but they will destroy if this happens

Edit, they do have music listed from the big 5 and I bet this is a shameless PR stunt on someone's part.

Tell the big 5 about it

they are sneaky and underhanded but this is the one time that I'm thankful that the fooking big 5 are mean. Email each of them with the link, they won't wait to sue and they will sue everyone involved.

Posted by trancebrat on Oct-08-2004 03:46:

They got Terry too.

Posted by J.L. on Oct-08-2004 03:48:

big 5... as in like sony, aol time warner, etc...??

well... my remix isn't legit anyways... just something i did for fun... so it's not like i care... but i am pissed that other people's work (such as mr. mystery) is being taken and sold for profit.. wtf that is just wrong

Posted by Floorfiller on Oct-08-2004 03:49:

fuck!!! they got all of my stuff too

my stuff

Posted by Fundamental on Oct-08-2004 03:53:

There's plenty of stuff on there nabbed off TA's very own Amateur Producers section too. Not right...

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-08-2004 03:56:

the thread has been stickied for all to see and to make a mockery of this "service" they're providing. what a bunch of blatant fools.

i hope they get their asses sued for all they're worth and then some

Posted by flavdave on Oct-08-2004 03:58:

From the "about us" page:

And one more reason to use our on-line store: many record labels let us sell their music before the date of official release.

Bullshit.

Posted by trancebrat on Oct-08-2004 03:59:

Did anyone catch this part???

Is downloading music here legal?

Yes. The music is licensed, and the artists are compensated.

WTF?

Posted by Damien Heck on Oct-08-2004 04:01:

this is site is a joke and makes me quite angry. on the plus side, its nice to see everyone coming together to do something about it.

To all of those that like to bash artists. Now does it make sense why artists are so hellbent on making sure that their music doesn't get in the wrong hands?

Looks like their selling mp3s from every source they can get their grubby little hands on.

Posted by torontotrance on Oct-08-2004 04:11:

and looking at some labels, I have the promos they are trying to sell. I notified about 10 labels that I deal with and told them to sue the bastards, if they did not sign up, which they did not. I still say this is a PR stunt somehow, to see how many CC numbers they could get or how many labels will sue. Just wait till the Big 5 find out, it will be quick and painful for whoever runs that fooking site. I doubt it will be up by late next week.

As much as I'm a big advocate of p2p and downloading mp3s, this site does disgust me. It's one thing to download music from p2p, listen to it yourself, and burn to cd for your car, but to download and edit all the ripping group tags off and sell the rips at full price is unconscionable.

I think pretty much everything is on jetgrooves. For those of you who are familiar with the dj media company "PromoOnly", type their name in and the PromoOnly cd releases will appear in the results. Now, this company is very selective with who gets their cd's, and would shit bricks if they knew about this.

It's also even more ironic because you can type in words or phrases that only mp3 sceners may be familiar with and get results. Type in the word "proper", "read nfo", and "real retail" and you'll see what I mean, as this is how release group mp3s are usually tagged.

JetGrooves tried very hard to make this look legit. They even have audio samples set up. I previewed the Ferry Corsten remix of Force of Gravity and the sample starts out at the beginning of the track, then it has a fast forwarding sound effect leading into the vocal and then the climax and then the end. It seems like they did a lot of work, but now let's hope they get shut down.

Anyone suggest any actions on our part?

Posted by Radagast on Oct-08-2004 05:00:

I'm just wondering why this illegal file sharing website is allowed to be displayed while one that will let me download the same tracks for free isn't.

Because TA does not support file sharing, you know that.

Why? Because it's illegal. I'm assuming this site is illegal also. Plus this site does no more (and maybe less) damage to producers than a free filesharing website.

The purpose of providing a link to the site was not to encourage file sharing but rather to inform producers, including many amateur producers from TA, that their tracks were being sold. This is so those producers/labels can take action as they see fit.
