Yeah, but when you get multiple unwanted messages every once in a while it really adds up.

Spammers must die

besides...tehy are happily sending it out either by email or whatever...

i just remmebered how i ended up on this "list"

in august i got on guestlist for ONE night at teh docks and well i called and i left my number to call back at

i dont think its right to assume taht guestlist names should be flooded with messages without authorization

I'm pretty sure it's free to receive messages (at least on Fido). They do that for this very purpose. I only pay to SEND messages.

u mightve been on their guestlist sometime....

Some promoters are abusing the technology, I thought about this a while ago and if I was to ever do it (for a TA events mailing list) I'd ask for the cell phone # (optional) and then you'd get a random number texted to your phone - and then enter it on a web page (or just reply via your phone) to verify it.

yea but with the amount of events taht happen, you would then have to creat a sorting list based on genres or venues or shit like that and thats honestly too much work for free promotions (imo i think u shouldnt bother)

Thumbs up AGREE!!

I agree with ^^^^ , although promoting IS GOOD and the best way to get the public out there,!!! it is a huge sacrafice of your OWN time!!!! Maybe it isnt the way to go about promotng clubs/ dj's .................look into it then let us know!!!!

Gee, this is a familiar thread...

I posted a similar incident from the sjradio boatcruise in the summer.. and I still get mass stuff for the Guv.

As it turned out, it all linked back to a guestlist request for Adnanmedia on the web for some friends going to Guv... which is Talal's outfit. Got to love how you give them your info for a specific event, then they blatantly harass you ILLEGALLY.

Daniella, I think you should communicate to your fellow ppl @ Followtheparty that what you are doing is illegal, and if enough ppl complain to the CRTC, you will find your company under unwanted atention from the law and government.

Posted by Swamper on Oct-08-2004 06:01:

Likely more of an issue regarding PIPEDA than the CRTC though...

Posted by mercure on Oct-08-2004 06:08:

Certainly a PIPEDA issue, but likely not big enough for them to take action yet. Now, if the Commissioner's office started receiving enough complaints about it...

I dislike ppl who spam and this is why I never will sent out a mailing list.

Posted by harcourt on Oct-08-2004 06:35:

If your provider charges for incoming (I'd double check to be safe), I would call them and ask them why? I'd love to hear the reasoning. If you called them and convey your situation to them. You're receiving unsolicited messages on your phone and being charged, I honestly can't see them ignoring this issue.

I'm almost positive this is why Fido (for example) does not charge for incoming. It's very hard for them to decide what is legit and not legit, ( ie. what to charge and not to charge), so they simply nail you on the outbound. I just can't see the inbound charge, if that were true and can't be changed, I could totally screw your bill over, by sending message after message and you can't stop me.

Personally, I'd call and ask/complain if necessary.

telus used to charge me for messages THEY sent me!!

Id get crap like "try are new plan" and then get dinged 10 cents for it. One of many reasons i left that company. They were great as clearnet but telus ruined them.

Posted by dallastar on Oct-08-2004 08:14:

life of the text

i know - i get those too - i think there is somone that works at Roger's and sends them to every customer - i owkr a retirement home and this guy (78 year old) got the same tect message as I did

"come out for hi-hop night at such and such club..!0$ at door ...ecy"

Fortunatly i am on a plan that has unlimited incoming text messages..

look into that kinda plan and complain to your distributer!

I am great/super/fantastic at complaining..
