Unfair sentences

As we know there are loads of oddish laws in USA that shouldn't be in the lawbooks in the 21st century. However, everything isn't perfect in European countries either; nor in Finnish law particularly.

Before I explain my point further I encourage you my soul mates to use this thread to tell about sentences in your country that didn't satisfy you / that disgusted you.

Ok, let's proceed. If you feel a human life is expensive, DON'T even approach Finland. Recently, there was a mother that was sentenced to be jailed for _two_ years. She had kept her pregnancy secret from all and had given birth to a girl baby alone in her house. Then she had left the child in a pool to die. The baby had died after 3 hours. The judges determined that the woman wasn't a nuthead -- she had done it all fully consciously.

Two-phuckin'-years for this. And just to mention, the prisons here aren't probably like the prison you are thinking now. They are like hotels if I exaggarate a bit. Everybody's got own TVs in their cells etc.. commodities. And the prison the woman is going, I doubt there will even be bars.

Many things are good here but things like these... I would like to see a change, soon!

well she killed the baby..that's homicide
how do you mean she left it in a pool? you mean, underwater? how did the baby survive 3 hours??

I have to assume there was no water in the pool. However in the news report I read they said that baby had died after 3 hours.

Yes, and as if the short sentences weren't enough, if you're a first timer you'll only do half of it. Or sometimes even less.

If you really want to kill someone, just drive over them when drunk. That way you can claim you did it accidentally and you may get away with nothing but a fine.

Here in Spain, if it's your first sentence and it's 2 jail years or less, you won't even go to jail.

you can be imprisoned for dangerous driving here, and also drunk driving, which is a good thing.

although here, it is perfectly legal for an english market trader to kill a welshman on market day so long as he uses a longbow and is on english soil.

I heard about that. You seen the movie Liar Liar? I think they referred to this case in that movie...

There are so many stupid ass laws here in the US. There is actually a law in Chicago forbidding fishing from a giraffe's neck. Who wrote that law?

Norway is similar in some ways. They are very strict against drunk driving though. Is Finland socialist?

You kill someone drunk driving here in the states and you will do some serious time.

I think many US citizens see all Scandinavian countries rather socialist because of our free health care, relatively high unemployment aid money, free children care and school systems (free school food) etc, etc. I see all those very positive things and no, Finland nor other Scandinavian countries are not socialist in the sense of what former east block countries used to be
We've got some kind of mixed system.

My favorite:

In Chico, CA, detonating a nuclear device within the city limits results in a $500 fine.

Might as well make it two then...
