-- Canada gets screwed in Soccer again
Canada gets screwed in Soccer again
Canada should have 7 points in our group stage right now
We have had 2 goals disallowed, both against honduras. I have emailed concacaf to see what they are doing to fix the horrible state of reffing in our group. I will continue to do so until I get an answer from them.
Maybe they think we are too good a hockey and that our soccer team must suffer because of this.
USA has gotten screwed alot when they play in central american and island countrys. The refs in this zone just plain suck, maybe theres sme fixing who knows but the refs in this zone are historically bad.
Okay, so far there's USA and Canada. Any other countries getting screwed right now?
That's soccer. Refs always make bad calls. They're not perfect. Just live with it.
It's proven that Central American are amongst the worst in the world. They hate Canada and the US because they want to see their country make it. I could live with it, if it wasn't so evident everytime Canada played them. It's very frustrating being a fan and seeing 11 guys play their hearts out, only to get screwed by a referee who makes constant bad calls, because he wants to see his team in the next round.
They make such little money that they can be bought off quite easily, remember Italy vs. Korea in WC 2002, yep you guess it a Central American ref.

Radzinski!!!!! keeps on playing fairly well!!
ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CRIMINAL!
That referee needs to be guillotined for disallowing the second Canadian goal! I havent seen a more flagrant robbery in a long time. Its a waste of time to try to qualify for the WC for Canada with the Central American crooks. It hurts to see a football team that deserves to win legitimately to get absolutely ruined by a fucking peasant. That was truthfully the most horrendous call in the game of football Ive seen in 22 years and the worst things is its not the first time that Canada misses the WC because of corrupted Central American refs.
Canada-Mexico, last match of WC94 anyone?
Forget about the WC, the best thing a football fan in Canada can do is shove a snowball up the referees arse every time we play on home soil.
Until the next robbery...

CSA president says referee's calls incompetent during World Cup qualifying posted October 11 @ 22:43, EST BURNABY, B.C. (CP) - The president of the Canadian Soccer Association didn't mince his words Monday, saying incompetent officials have jeopardized Canada's chances of advancing in World Cup qualifying. Andy Sharpe was blunt, describing some of the calls as horse manure "by the most incompetent officials" he'd ever seen. "These are the reason coaches get fired and players don't get to World Cups," he said. Canadian officials were incensed a goal, which would have given Canada a 2-0 lead against Honduras on Saturday night, was called off in the 79th minute, seemingly for a phantom call on veteran defender Jason deVos. The game ended in a 1-1 draw when Honduras scored in injury time. "There was one bad call that totally changed the game and it's one bad call that kills you," Sharpe said. He was still fuming about Mexican referee Benito Archundia who called two critical fouls against Canada in a Sept. 5 game in Edmonton that resulting in Honduras earning another 1-1 draw. One of the calls negated a Canadian goal, the other allowed Honduras to score on a penalty kick. "That was crap," barked Sharpe. "If that was in Honduras, that would have been Honduras 2, Canada 0." Sharpe has expressed his concerns to CONCACAF officials but they've fallen on deaf ears. "It was diabolical what went on and really you can't criticize the officials, that's the party line," he said. "All around the world you see people getting fined and sanctions against them (for complaining about the refs) but a spade is a spade. If I see it and it's wrong, I have to say something about it." What further infuriated Sharpe was an official assessment following the game in Edmonton praising Archundia's courage for calling the late penalty kick. "The referee's assessment has to be honest about the referee's performance," said Sharpe. "I don't see that. I don't see assessors being honest. If the assessors are honest and say 'You blew that and you're getting a bad mark,' I can live with that. But not when they are getting high marks for incompetent calls." Archundia has been an international referee since 1993 and was one of the FIFA officials working the recent Olympic Games. Midfielder Atiba Hutchinson, who scored Canada's goal against Honduras, said the calls and disallowed goals have been frustrating. "It happens a lot to all Canadian teams," said the Toronto native who plays for Helsingborg of the Swedish Premier League. "It's tough to deal with but you have to fight through it and hopefully you win sometimes." Canada plays Costa Rica on Wednesday at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby in a do-or-die game. The Canadians must win to keep alive their hopes of advancing to the next round of World Cup qualifying. With three points awarded for a victory, Guatemala leads the qualifying round with seven points from a 2-1-1 record. Costa Rica (2-2-0) and Honduras (1-0-3) both have six points while Canada (0-2-2) has just two points. Only the top two countries advance to the final round of World Cup qualifying in CONCACAF, which covers North and Central America plus the Caribbean. |
Well, it isn't like we'd do ANYTHING in a World Cup anyway, except embarass ourselves. But I agree it was criminal...but then again, reffing in football is bloody awful and has been for decades. Look at how many times England have been screwed, among other nations.
I'm pissed off cuz we have a good young team that deserves 2 wins right now. I'm going to the World Cup in 06. I would love to have to gone to cheer on my home country. I think it would have brought great pride to see them in the world cup. Now I'll just go a rowdy for England (who I'm sure will get screwed by some bad reffing as well)

I agree. I think the CSA is heading in the right direction. I think Canada could have done some damage in the next round. We have a good young team. Now we have to wait 4 more years to see how good. Thank god Onstad will be gone by then, along with a couple of others. Let's give these young guys their time now, so when it comes about again they are ready.
Interest in footy in Canada seems to be rising, esp. with women's team doing pretty good.
Men's team get the shaft. Not the best footy you'll see, but there are some decent talent there. (Then again, quite a few seems to be immigrants to canada)
Last time Canada made it to WC was the one in Mexico during the 70s, I think. (And the only time) About time they make it again. :P
