Wink Classics that "everybody" likes, except you.

Cafe Del Mar. Possibly some remixes of it are good, but the original really isn't anything special.
Also, Xpander, while good, isn't the earthshaking religious experience everybody says it is.

DK8 - Murder was the bass

What does everybody see in it? Why does every DJ, from Sander K to Adan Beyer spin it (or has spun it)?

And WHY GOD WHY are new remixes coming out soon? That's like putting lipstick on an ugly girl that has been dead for a few weeks, useless.

Maybe u should probably listen to it in GU13.It somehow sounds extra special..

Oh boy, there are a few... but for some reason I can't really think of any right now...

The only track that springs to mind is Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Remix). I hate pretty much anything S&G have done but this just takes the cake. I remember people always talking about it but somehow I never actually heard the tune... then one day I finally managed to hear it and I thought I was listening to a different track altogether than the others. I can't understand how anyone can consider this cookie-cutter cheesefest as a classic.

Posted by neoraver on Oct-11-2004 12:50:

how can you say that Caf del Mar isn't anything special, this was one of those tracks which represented the genre imo

edit: right, I could never understand ppl liking Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Remix), wouldnt consider it as cheese but I just don't feel it

The keyword is "represented". Nowadays it's just boring.

Have to disagree with Cafe Del Mar. This was one of the songs that led me to buy one of my first Trance compilations, and I have loved this tune ever since. Though it's re-release in '98 had an large impact into killing the original, but in doing so created a host of great remixes, especially the Oliver Lieb remix.

But this is a place of opinions right?

Personally for me, one classic that was never high on my agenda was Gouryella - Gouryella. Although I must have liked it enough to buy it as the vinyl sits in my bedroom virtually unplayed.

That Vengaboys remix is probably one of the only Svenson & Gielen productions that i like, i think its great but i can totally understand why some people don't like it.

Don't be get me started on Chicane - Halcyon (Airscape Remix). Terrible!!!

Now, I'll just quote you: This was one of the songs that led me to buy one of my first Trance compilations, and I have loved this tune ever since.

I was just about to say that. I think its decent but it has never really had a big impact on me. I should add that i have never heard it played live though....

Like I say, this is a place of opinions and that is what makes the whole industry so diverse. If we all liked the same thing it would be quite boring.

But that song, I just can't enjoy it like some of the other classics such as Out of the Blue, etc...

Speedy J - Pullover

I'm sorry, but that siren is just nervegratingly awful.

Posted by Synchronized on Oct-11-2004 13:02:

Heh, I never really liked Hybrid's Finished Symphony, but I understand why people like it..

Posted by trewqy on Oct-11-2004 13:10:

All the gouryella tunes. All those popular System F tunes.
All of them, imo, have stupid over the top melodies that just borders on cheese. I tried liking them, however..
(except soulstice which i love)

Exhale and OOTB are cheesish, but great nontheless, if you ask me.

Posted by capricorn15 on Oct-11-2004 13:18:

veracocha - carte blanche, not that good imo

Posted by TOR on Oct-11-2004 13:23:

yep, i never liked Caf del Mar either... except for the J00F remix.

same goes for Lost Vagueness (Oliver Lieb)... i adore most of his work, but this main synth is just terrible

Posted by Sami.H on Oct-11-2004 13:55:

Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel

I just cant get it. Whats so damn good about this tune? Its boring
as hell for meh

I agree with that.

And Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Tiesto mix). I know that I might have been known to rant about that song before, but I just don't understand it's appeal. The singer's voice gets on my nerves, the melodies are average, and the whole thing sounds like it's in the same league as IvD and DJ Sammy, this piece of crap is absolutely nothing compared to the songs it's often mentiond in the same breath as, for example Flesh, Suburban Train and even Silence.

Silence is also a bit overrated IMO, but not to the ridiculous extent Southern Sun is, I can see why people love Silence, it's a well-made tune with decent vocals and a certain mood that's uplifting but not cheesy.

This thread could not go on without Darude - Sandstorm being mentioned. Talk about bleeding ears!!!!

Posted by Sid on Oct-11-2004 14:30:

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Cafe del mar either, although the Marco V mix isn't that bad. Good to see no one mention Three drives - Greece 2000 otherwise there will be big big trouble as it is truly the greatest piece of music ever made!

Hey! bring that to the "tracks that depict a world location" thread
