Gabriel And Dresden

Recently they have released final versions of tunes they played a while back. I wanted to see some opinions on their reworks.

Gabriel And dresden-Lament

Older Version completely blows away the bloom version. This version had an amazing mystifying feel to it. Very dark and proggy with hard basslines and echoeing vocals. The vocals were gorgeously placed between the hypnotic repetitive bassline. The buildup at 4min20min or so with the echoes was beautiful and then when the vocals kicked it....pure bliss baby. 6min climax capped a near perfect tune and emotional tune.

New Final Version (bloom version)

Sounds very lifeless and the basslines were tweaked and the overall melody seemed to have been scrapped. The vocals seemed as they were rushed early in the tune. The climax is totally cheesy and rushed. There is no epic feel to this version anymore. The main melody is very ruggid and ugly as well.

Older>final

Josh Gabriel-Alive

Older Version was a magical uplifting piece with a major buildup. Featured on their essential mix...the tune's vocals/buildup resembled a modern male interpretation of the Oliver lieb remix of utah saints-lost vagueness. The tune was beautiful and unique.

New Final Version
Sounds like a nintendo/videogame tune with a terrible driving bassline. The buildup was scrapped for a totally different one. I have no idea why.The emotion has been brought down a notch IMO. Good tune nonetheless compared to many others. However the tune was brought down a level as compared to the original

Older>Final

Evanescence-hello (Gabriel and dresden Remix)

The first one they played earlier this year was much better than this recent one they have been slamming IMO
So many re-edits of this tune that i can't even begin and now im confused..hahahah

Older>final version

Andain-Here is the House VS Depeche Mode-Here is this House(Gabriel and dresden Remix)

This is the bright spot IMO where they created a beautiful tune.
I love depeche mode however...i felt the remix they initially created suited a female vocalists instead.

The newer re-edit with the female vocals is gorgeous and the melody and bassline was completely overhauled and replaced with a bit more fluffier and prettier one. I love this tune hehehehe

Newer>Older

On a side note: all of attention deficit's production have been superb and never a hit or miss. Their collab wit moogwai earlier this yr/lastyr was brilliant.

I was one of the few who loved the g&d remix of DIDO. LOL and im a big time PROG HEAD!!! lol
My girlfriend loves G&D's remixes and especially the dido remix. I like the overall appeal of the tune. It walks the lines of uplifting trance and never crosses into cheese. Great tune.

Bloom album:
Good album...great track selection with a different array of tunes. SOme tunes sounded different though as stated above: WHAT HAPPEN TO THE REAL LAMENT!!! ummmm 8 stars out of 10

Anyways pls post insightful thoughts only peeps.

im a bit lazy to write but...

only heard lament, and I think this track is so underrated...
it is better than some other remixes by G e D imo....

Bloom is good album but best track comes from Junkie XL. His mix of Sarah Mclachlan's World on Fire is awesome. Also Stoppage Time beats many other songs from Bloom, IMO. I really like their first mix of Evanescence - Hello. Too bad it hasn't been released due to copyright/etc. reasons. Their remix of dido is their worst production IMO. I like more of their older production such as Jewel - Intuition Remix and Nalin & Kane - Beachball Remix.

I was happy to hear the bloom version of lament becuz is just had more flow and the climax was alot nicer to listen to. The original was so boring and hard to listen to.
However, I agree with you about the bloom version of alive. That track is pure shit. All energy and emotion is lost, and the build up totally blows, and whats with that section of breakbeat in the song when it should be just pounding. That song makes me hate disc 2.
Also, I really like the remix of Dido, well sort of. The first 6 minutes are great and full of emotion, but then when the breakdown comes I thought I'd get to hear dido's sweet voice one more time, but then the song totally changes directions and just left me with an empty feeling, so I just listen to the first half of the song over and over.

agree 100% mate. Lament, Alive, and Hello were killed in the final versions and bare little resemblance to the massive tunes that they once were.

This is funny too cause I was gonna make a topic about how tunes get killed in the "finishing touches" process or when they are "reworked" for release. It's such a shame really, but c'est la vie.

I think the final version of Alive is much better than the original. I haven't heard the originals of the other tracks though.

I'm all for it. I haven't heard any of the original here, but now I'm intrigued.

u mean Andain - Here Is the House

which I love

and i like the old version of alive more than the new one

just for clarification -- are we sure we're not comparing Lament to Lament (dub 4 satoshi)?

Posted by davedresden on Oct-13-2004 04:01:

there is no new version of lament. the version used on bloom is the orig mix and the version used in our essential mix was the G&D dub 4 Satoshi, which has been mix-labelled on the internet as the "satoshi tomiie remix".

as for "alive" - bring that up with joshy g

ah that clarifies the difference then.

Any news on release date of:

Attention Deficit- Touched by Vast

and what inspired you in creating it.

IMO thats the best AD production and its unreleased as well
Thats a monster tune

Depeche Mode - Here Is The House (Gabriel & Dresden Bootleg) owns the Andain remake.

They kept the first version dark and gloomy, like Depeche Mode is supposed to be. The female vocals and that new synth is too fluffy.

I just got Bloom this weekend, and I really like it. It takes some time to get used to, but its growing on me. Especially CD 2.

I agree 100%

I guess they felt the need to remix some a nintendo song as well Sorry Dave not feeling Arcadia. Its like they took a nintendo pad and used it for the build than took the guitar riff from 'I need You' to place in the breakdown.Than the song exits the breakdown with the nintendo pads again.

since lament was released on satoshi tomiie's saw records in dec. 2002, G&D remade the track in honor of the darker prog sounds that typically appear on the saw label.\

the vinyl has both the original and the dub on it

alrighty, so it's a remix *by G&D* 4=for satoshi's lable. thanks for the info.
