Who designs record sleeves?

I am wondering who designs sleeves for record labels, graphic design is my next passion to Dj'ing and this is something that I have always wondered about.

My fave sleeves are the Bonzai Italy ones, these are up there with my most treasured records mainly due to the sleeve design.

Does anyone have any info on this or who to contact? I have a few designs which I have done myself and think that I could incorporate a labels logo onto them to finsh them off.

Thanks luke.

some labels use pretty much the same sleeve for every release (which cuts down on design costs). labels that don't do this (for example mbelektrik) usually state who designs the covers on the cover somewhere. have a look through your records and read the very small print found on a lot of sleeves

I've spotted http://www.dbxl.nl/ from many of my records. I like that nun character what they did for Armind.

Why not try selling a design to a new label.

It's usually some graphic designer somewhere who puts together the whole image of the company including letter heads, logos and sleeves etc.

When it comes to record covers it can be all sorts of sources, but it usually comes back to a graphic designer at the end.

A friend of mine (Who is a graphic designer) did the Jamiroqai - Space Cowboy cover.

What usually happens is that the cover design is never really in the hands of the artist in most cases. There are a whole heap of people who specialise in knowing what is more marketable etc. to the public. They can ofcourse get it wrong sometimes but there you go.

Cheers
