No More ****in' Rock N' Roll - Ripoff?

Just listened to Voodoo People by the Prodigy and the two sound nearly identical. WTF?

N00bs are great

Posted by Laushinameee on Oct-15-2004 21:49:

oh my god i die wtf hrhrhr

Yes we know...and some of us don't apparently.

It's a shame when artists steal other artists work. At least name the damn track properly.

Posted by Laushinameee on Oct-15-2004 21:53:

its called a 'cover', its not such a difficult concept to grasp really

Posted by sleepydragon on Oct-15-2004 21:57:

bit slow of the mark here
and the track is advertised as using sample from voodoo people in it so its not ripping the original artist of and they will have got permission to do it.

Posted by vswede on Oct-15-2004 22:35:

not a ripp off just uses sample and credits are given if needed. they obviusly had the permisson. i like asys's version better than prodigy's

omfg i die

Ok thanks for the clarification. And for those of you who are like "omg this is so obvious" I just heard Voodoo People for the first time today (yeah I know it's kinda sad, but who cares). Some of you really need to chill out.

Posted by twisted on Oct-16-2004 06:59:

naw it gets boring when there are questions nearly the same being asked every couple of days...

Posted by Psionic on Oct-16-2004 13:29:

I actually haven't seen a topic like this. Go rip on the n00bs who always start those "Post your top 5 _____".If anything on TA gets posted every two days its a new one of those.

It is a rip-off to be fair. It steals both the main lead from Voodoo people, and several other elements from the track. And the guitars sound like the same chords as Voodoo People, but the riff was stolen from Nirvana's Very Ape in the first place, so can't complain there.

yet again it wasnt stolen how can it be stealing when the original artist gave it to them

This is not an attack on anyone but rather a comment to everyone on TA:

================================================================
Why do some people on TA try to act like snobs when someone is just trying to be a fellow edm listener. I understand joking around w/ someone but some of the comments in this thread are kinda rude.

Just because someone didnt register on TA 2-3 yrs ago that doesnt mean you should treat him/her like a child.

SNOBS not NOOBS are the reason y people dont post anything useful anymore ( they are scared snobs will attack them) or why people have choosen to stop posting in MD ( y waste ones time talking to a bunch of assholes).

I respect those on TA who have a vast knowledge on EDM but have an understanding on how to communicate this knowledge with people.

A little more modesty and less ego would actually be good for TA.

When you clear samples you aren't "given" them by the original artist, you just throw some money at their publisher so they don't sue you. I highly doubt Liam Howlett had anything to do with permission to use any of the Voodoo People elements. And as for stealing Nirvana's riff, Howlett never credited them- he just played the riff live in the studio with a guitar so he didn't have to pay anything.

OMG so true! They act like just because they've registered before you that it makes them more a trance fan. No it doesnt. And just because some people like Sasha and others like myself like Fragma, are the Sasha fans automatically bigger trance fans? No. It's bullshit. The snobs are so annoying, not the newbs. Thanks for that post dude
