Airbase goes progg (Update!)

Okay, so I pinched the bpm up a bit, and also rounded the track up, so its actually finished!

Use it, abuse it, share it, play it, the treat is on me. I dont know where to take tracks like this anyways, so might as well share it!

Okay, a little demo of a track I've been fiddeling with tonight.
Initially I was trying to do some techy benassi stuff mixed with real live drums and stuff. But after quite a few hours, I realised I had gone in a totally different direction.

This time, to make up for the last times sample quality mayhem, I publish the sample in full (6:20) in 160 kbps. Dont you dare to bitch about the quality now

those strange voice sounds are cool. i'm liking the low tempo of this.

wooo the piano finally came in got a real interesting feel to the piano melody. a bit different than what you normally hear, but refreshing to say the least.

all in all this is pretty hypnotic and trippy in a way.. mostly because of those voice type sounds and something that sounds like a door creaking over and over..

thanks for sharing

Posted by d-miurge on Oct-16-2004 09:36:

wow, you manage to create a hypnotic atmosphere, really floorkiller !
your drums are good as usual, it's a good way to make music Jezper, I'm sure that several of yours new production will be like this !

Cheers, D-Miurge

Really nice track, Jezper.
Different from what you produce ordinary, but why not?
(i also love prog)

However, i found the track a little bit too short. We could imagine a more longer track... about 9'00.
Well, that's just my opinion

Posted by Clovis on Oct-16-2004 11:07:

LOL...those vocals/sounds somehow remind me of the monsters from Silent Hill 3 I'm scuuurred

I like the track, very creepy and dark IMO

Posted by Airbase on Oct-16-2004 11:16:

Thanks guys!

And for the length, its not finished you know, there are a few more minutes of it to come!

It's different from your usual style Jez. I'll give it a few more listenings and then I'll come back. For now it sounds pretty scarry indeed, I like what you did with those vocals. Would love to hear some more melody, though. That piano is a great start!

Posted by Airbase on Oct-16-2004 12:05:

Well, the intention is to keep down on melodies, and focus more on the atmosphere and mood.

yo yo yo man
leet tune you created!
and i am so happy that you didn't do it in benassi style as you wanted
bennasi would rather copy your style, cause you rock far better
sorry for lame english

Posted by TOR on Oct-16-2004 12:27:

superb track, mate! i love that bassline.. this will sound amazing in a club.

good breakdown too, sounds very full... maybe i'd add a dark choir there, to give it an even more eerie feel.. or maybe some gregorian chants, if you have them. would be awesome..

very nice work, more of that in the future please

Agreed here! What makes you want to do a Benassi-style anyway?

Posted by Airbase on Oct-16-2004 12:30:

Hehe, i didnt mean i was gonna rip benassi of, I just meant like some weird dirty electro stuff.

I'll take a look at adding some chants or choirs, let me see what I can find

Posted by Vizay on Oct-16-2004 12:31:

one word, creepy

it has a very good atmosphere and nothing's really missfitted
when the piano breaks in at around 4 minutes, wow! goosebumps all over

this is some good shit overall, can't wait to hear more of it

Posted by carl-b.mine.nu on Oct-16-2004 12:39:

awesome!

gonna have this on my mp3player at work.. it will definately set the mood!

bassline is wicked tho I wish you could add some more sounds before the piano starts... its not that its empty... more like edge of boring if you're keeping attention all the time... just me tho...

btw... would be nice with just a few bpm's faster..

good stuff jezper, i'm impressed

Posted by dannyc on Oct-16-2004 13:35:

hi jezper huge fan of all your productions. have pretty much all them inncluding remixes.

i like the direction you've taken with this one, i understand what you mean about less focus on melody and more on atmosphere but i believe when making such tracks to compensate for melody one should focus more on interesting percussion patterns, bongos, snares, hats etc. it might get a little boring on a dance floor thats why a good interesting percussive pattern would hold the crowds attention.

as one professional producer once said the most fundemental important aspect in any music is a good pattern. something for ear to hook onto. but yeah i love those voice samples really captures the atmosphere well

great job jezper keep it up

Quality sucks! ... Just kidding! :P

Nice tunes, great stuff!!! Very pro.

Posted by TOR on Oct-16-2004 14:57:

ah too bad you did not find any chants or choirs for the final version... it's still very good though

Posted by Sunquest on Oct-16-2004 18:42:

w00t very diff. style from u, to be honest, i can see a m.i.k.e. remix in the style of ofra haza - M.I.K.E. vs zigi remix
would be amazing, if u can try request it from him pleeeasseee

anyways, bass is huge, really nice work, i like the voice (or atleast it sounds like a voice) thing in the song
lets hear what u have in store next :P
peace out

That song Hypno is freakin sick man!!!

Gotta love that progressive sound

Props man!!!

Posted by noikeee on Oct-16-2004 23:35:

hah i was expecting some fluffy mcprog but this is some proper dirty stuff

perhaps it feels a bit too.. ehh.. dragged out. nothing exciting happens for a while. but it's pretty solid

make more dark prog tracks

so it would be okay with you if one did a little remix of this?
getting some nifty ideas for a little electro breakbeat remix when I'm listening to this

Posted by Subtle on Oct-17-2004 00:23:

Plus
with these wicked effects this is definitely prog
really enjoy the bass

minus
dont like the piano thing, doesnt quite fit

conclusion
sounds very nice.. a little technoish.. percussions and effect are very good.. but the piano really kills me.. bad proggresion there I think.. lose the piano and you are on to something

7-/10

dude i love it, I've been listening to your stuff since way back in '00 when i first started making trance and putting it up on mp3.com. you inspire me to create.

this track? totaly wicked- brilliant flow, great instrumentation and composure, the piano like subltle said is a bit off I could do withought it- but thats just prefference.
awesome fx
