How much weight are you using

So i have this dission problem how much weight do i need .. i have a Ortofon concorde silver i now have it on 2grams , 'my friends says you need 4 .. but i dunno isnt that 2 much .. tell me your weights ..
and your suggestions ..

I googled it and Ortofon recommends 3-5 grams for your cart. If you can get it to work on 2 then by all means go for it, less record wear is a good thing, but don't be suprised if you get some skipping issues.

As for myself, I've got Shure Whitelables set on 2.5 grams each and absolutely no skipping!!!

i go 2.5 - 3 with my shure m44-7's.



kinda works out all right for me.

hmm i dont have skipping but i dont have high quality sound .. you know what i mean .. my tonearm is locked @ 3 .. maybe thats why i dunno

I have those carts.

They are rated 2.5 - 5 grams, I was using 2.5 but had some skipping issues on one vinyl (its a crappy groove) so I bumped it up to between 2.75 and 3 grams, I find it a good compromise between tracking, sound quality and record wear.

on the concorde silvers i used to use 3.5g - 4g.

i now use whitelabels with 3g of pressure.

2.5 with my stanton 890, 3 with my trackmaster II. I really gotta get new, matching, carts

1.5 with my whitelabels

3 on my Shure M44-7.

1.8, whitelabels

I use Ortofon Nightclubs.....
LOL, everyone always freaks out when I tell them, but I have my weights reversed on the tonearm. A friend of mine (very reputable DJ in Mexico City) told me about that when I asked about how he sets his Ortofon carts. I don't notice much record wear and the stylii hold up just fine and it eliminates all the fine tuning of weight adjustment.

I'm sure it's not the most ideal setting, but it works just fine for me.

Reversed? as in screwed on backwards?

How would that make a difference, wouldn't it be the same, except your weight faces the wrong way, i mean its still the same weight on the same spot on the arm...............?

I use Concorde Pro Silvers, so I'm a bit interested in what you mean.

reversing the weight and screwing it in all the way will max out the tracking weight. It will also wear out not only the vinyl but it will kill the cart too. This method was done way back in the day when turntablists had only stanton 500al and simular old carts that sucked for scratching. Another thing they did to increase weight was they taped on a nickle or penny directly on the headshell.

Just don't do this...

Actually, no, it's not the same weight at all. I don't understand all the technicality behind it, but it allows the tonearm to weight down more. There is no need to worry about the fine tune adjustments on the black dial when the weight is reversed. I find it very useful for great tracking, good sound quality, and while everyone will argue that this wears the record down significantly, I have not experienced this.

I have had them reversed for 1.5+ years now and the records from way back in the day even still play just fine.

I've got Ortofon OM Silver, I think that's the name, the headshell-mounted ones. There's 3 grams of weight on them if I remember correctly.
