Bassline Help?
Im having a really hard time with basslines...and thats my weakness in producing right now.Im tired of coming out with the boring and gay Kick bass kick bass line..so..i was wondering if anyone of u TA's here can help me out.I would really like to learn how to make complex basslines..like ones that are arpy i guess.so if any of u guys can give me some examples it would be awesome!...oh yea..can anyone of u guys show me how the bassline in Rank 1-Such Is Life made?
search this forum for a thread called 'the fight against oompa-itis'
i think thats what its called. lots of different bassline variations. layer a few of them to get rolling constant arp basslines. very good thread that was stickied for a while i think.
nope i cant find it...

Lets say..
K = Kick
- = Empty
_ = Bass
(in 1/16th notes)
Oompa = K-__K-__K-__K-__
If you just use the regular K___K___ bassline instead, although with the same note, it'll sound a lot better IMO. (That's 3 1/16th notes, not 1 long note!)
If you switch one (or more) of the bassline ntes to the same note but an octave up you'll get a "rolling" bassline. Of course it doesn't have to be the next octave, there are pretty much infinite choices when it comes to music production.
what i sometimes do is have several basslines stacked on top of each other. a current fav is
K---K---K---K--- kicks
--b-bb-b--b-bb-- bass 1 (typically more mid range)
-B--B-B--B--B-B- bass 2 (typically more sub)
ssssssssssssssss bass 3 (typically quieter but essential for the roll)
bass duck where they overlap or clash with the kicks.
