You don't watch much Jon Stewart do you.

1.) He wasn't serious.
2.) He does things like this all the time. Once on his show, he, with a straight face and somber tone, asked Billy Bob Thornton if his baby boy could "bang" Billy Bob's baby girl. Had me in stitches. He'd asked this blonde actress...forget her name...the same question on a previous show with the same effect. He does have guts.

Though he did own that fool in the bowtie. TIP: Never insult a professional comedian.

Stwewart took those fools to school (Tucker Carlson especially). What made me laugh the hardest was how the democrat host didn't even say a word; he just let his co-host get ripped apart.

What I find most amusing about the daily show is that its the most unfiltered of all the us news programs (if you can call it that). He tears into both sides equally hard and the show does a good job of exposing how the 'real news' is more theatre and less news. When Stewart was on O'Reilly, O'Reilly told Stewart that most of the people that watch his show are young, uneducated dope-smokers. To get back at Fox, neilson's did a survey to either confirm or deny O'Reilly's comments about the daily shows audience. The results were hilarious:

No WAY! Stewart and the Daily Show are so totally liberal, they know it and flaunt it. Yes they do take shots at both sides, but it is so far from equal. I watch a lot of Sewart. He was definitely trying to deliver a serious message, but the hosts were expecting him to be joking around. Instead he took them to task for glorifying political extremities and promoting it in a theatrical manner.

i don't even like Carlson.

Jon Stewart has become a total ass, which is why I stopped watching his show a couple of years ago. If he wants to go on Crossfire and take them to task, fine. But if you want to switch roles and be a "serious" person on a "serious" political show, leave all of your comedic pretenses at the door and have a thoughtful discussion. People do that all the time - they're actors, but they go on 'The Tonight Show' and act like normal people. They don't hide behind their theatrical shield and use it as license to insult the host.

Enjoy, Jon. Things were so much better when you played both sides of the aisle.

He isn't an actor, he's a comedian.

maybe what he's trying to say is that, with Stewart, it's become some sort of twisted pretence/defence mechanism facade he uses to hide behind while not wanting to be taken too seriously but still enough to push his political ideology?

What I (and Jon) mean is, if you take what any person on Comedy Central says seriously then you're not as bright as you think you are. I don't see where you get the information from what you've seen of him on TV to psyhoanalyze his thoughts and intentions. Do you know him personally? Have you spoken with his therapist? All we have to go by is what he says, does, and what his background shows. You can't just go out here saying you know exactly what he's thinking and what his motives are. He is first and foremost a comedian, and he has been for most of his life. His show is on a network whose mascot is a talking piece of shit ffs. Look at yourselves.

The difference between Miller/Maher and Stewart is that Stewart makes no pretenses that his show is meant to be some kind of serious political commentary. As far as what he seriously tried to say on Crossfire, so what? He has a mind of his own like any other person. He can say damn well what he wants. I'd say he joked around at least as much as he was seriously trying to say something. In fact, given his life long dedication to comedy, i'd say it's a good bet that even everything he said that seemed serious was meant to be a joke on the normal combativeness of Crossfire.

EDIT: You can agree with me or disagree with me...i've made my point clear here. I don't see the point in replying unless someone has something new to say. His style of comedy is deadpan delivery of things that nobody would normally say and that would normally offend people. He went on for quite a while on an Ellen Degeneres interview about the reason for her brother being fired from TDS was because "We stopped paying him." "He didn't want to leave because he...ahh...wanted to eat.", and similar stuff without cracking a smile. I see how this could be seen as being an asshole. But again, it's just his comedic style...

oh yeah, he's funny as heck IMO. i'd give my left nut for wit like his.

i think what imokrouk and q5echo are trying to say is that jon was only funny when clinton was in office. now his comedy is based on the absurdity of bush and co. and they're not prepared to laugh.

thanks for posting the video, i wish jon had been given a full thirty minutes to finish his pro-wrestling comparison of crossfire. and i would love to see that bow-tie twerp on the daily show (not likely).
