Actually, Digweed's sound is a hybrid sound. It combines elements of trance, progressive and house together in a seamless blend

Give the guy a break. He's barely been here a month.

Trance music, just like any other music, has several subgenres which may vary very much from each other. Therefore it's quite impossible to give an accurate description (not to mention how ignorant it is to say "I hate trance" when you've only heard a fraction of it) of it.

Generally, though, modern trance music is trying to evoke emotions through melodies and buildups. The older ("original", if you will) trance on the other hand was about hypnotic loops and repetition and is quite minimal compared to the new stuff. Then there's your progressive trance (which is most similar to the old type trance), tech-trance, trance influenced breakbeats etc... the list is endless.

To the best of my knowledge:

Uplifting/Melodic Trance
Vocal Trance
Progressive Trance
Hard Trance
Tech-Trance
Psy/Goa Trance

Of course as mentioned by Mr. Mystery, the list is endless..you come across a plethora of songs that cannot be classified as any of the above listed subgenres..trance influenced breakbeats for instance.
Back to the question you had asked, the hybrid sound is difficult to classify as is Digweed's sound.
