2004.11.20. Tedd Patterson w/ Nevio @ Boa-Redux

Hi-Fidelity Presents.....

Tedd Patterson (Stereo Productions, Vibal, NYC)

New York based DJ/Producer Tedd Patterson is an extremely wise and magical character of the dance music scene, whose style and sound is coming together now but reaches way back. A man of quality, Tedd has DJ'd since the 1970's and during the 1980's he acquired a name on the US Atlanta club circuit by blending alternative tracks with underground house and hip-hop. His talent for breaking new music earned him Billboard magazine coverage and his expertise in the dance music scene inevitably led him to New York and an A&R job at respected independent label 'Emotive Records'.

Patterson's career soon took off in Europe with a gig at London's 'Ministry of Sound', where he continues to feature. Forever deepening the range of today's dance music, he mixes tribal, deep, and progressive styles of house with trance, afro-beats, and disco tracks. There are no musical boundaries only musical journeys to Tedd so therefore he's often regarded as a "DJ's DJ" yet he always maintains a devoted 100% focus on the dance floor.

In 1996 he was requested to join up with Producers/DJ's Tony Humphries and 'Little' Louie Vega for 'The Magic Session', a most anticipated and highly attended dance music industry event. In response to this Tedd produced 'Welcome to the Magic Session' for legendary label Strictly Rhythm in 1999. The track became an underground house hit and was on DJ Top 10 lists both sides of the pond.

Tedd has since produced and remixed many tracks including the awesome 'Roots', (on Black Vinyl Records) a journey to the soul of house music played by anyone who's anyone and the powerfully mystic 'Magnifique', (a firm favourite of mine) recently retouched complete with vocal arrangement by Tom Stephan for his Ministry mix album.

When asked to describe his sound, Tedd responded with this:

That's a hard one. That question never gets easy to answer. I'd say I'm a fusion. I'm just a big wad of everything that moves me. From tribal to house, tech house, soul, break-beat, whatever. I try to ignore categories and serve up a good course of what's new and hot. I don't choose my music by categories. If it's good to me, there's no reason that it shouldn't be played. Can you imagine ignoring a record that's great because it's "hard" for example. I don't get the reasoning behind that. My inspiration for being a DJ is freedom, self-expression and being opened to the expression of others. We (the DJ's) are the leaders of the pack; we can't afford to be narrow-minded. Being any other way creates segregation. There, I've said it.
