Cool Burned CDs? NO DJ'ing!!!

yo ppl
sup?

do you think that i might not be able to dj at a party cause all my CDs are burned???
(yes yes, i know, i'm a CD DJ )

Posted by DJ LIQUID on Oct-09-2001 23:38:

you can but its illegal

well........maybe if u do it for free....its still questionable

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-09-2001 23:57:

yup...
thats a thing thats pressuring me to VINYL...

Posted by j_spot on Oct-10-2001 00:18:

well..If u r playin for free, @ a free event I dont think anybody will care about you usin burnt CDs, but If somebody anywhere along the line is makin some $$$ from it, then they will*and rightfully so* have a problem with that.

Chances of bein busted are slim to none, unless its by the promoter who is havin a conscience trip @ the time.

Posted by DJ Darchinova on Oct-10-2001 03:25:

hey man..
as long as you play the crowd the best music.. they WONT care!
music is music really.. and they might be a little concerned, but not enough to make them hire another DJ.
The only chance of you getting caught is if the persons parents are cops.. hheheehe

Posted by j_spot on Oct-10-2001 05:05:

yea..what kinda party do you mean? like a private house party? Or like a rave party?

cuz @ a house party, shit who gives a fuck..its only in the clubs that youve got to worry!

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-10-2001 11:39:

well it's more like a rave party but soe ppl here are puting it together...
well see bout it

Posted by RavingLunatic on Oct-10-2001 19:40:

Well.. my thought you should be fine, I doubt you'll go to jail for it.

but if you are going to make money of someone elses tracks you didn't pay for, that is morally wrong. even if you play for free and the promoter gets money, it's still wrong. even if you use records, but you stole them, it's wrong.

support the scene. but by all means, play your burned CDs and MP3s for free anywhere you like.

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-10-2001 21:57:

yea dude i know and i feel bad about it (no really!!!)

and thats why i intend to move to VINYL...

oh and that party is for a good cause...
it's to teach the clubbers of israel about GOOD music...

Posted by RavingLunatic on Oct-10-2001 22:34:

well if you ask me, israel has it's own problems right now.

but good music can never hurt.

Posted by DJ Rob Noli on Oct-11-2001 06:01:

Well I'm sure if I lived in Isreal, trance would be a nice escape from the conflict.

Peace.

It's really not so bad over here... but trance is a nice escape from anything!

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-11-2001 13:58:

well yea, alonzo is right...
its not as bad as they show on tv...

trance is a good escape from everything...

and the availability of good tracks (for mixing) on CDs sucks here...

so i am forced to burn...

Posted by Superscope on Oct-12-2001 14:40:

I frequantly play from cd when im at a gig or a rave, but its only tracks ive made myself that i play

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-13-2001 10:44:

he he he....

yea thats OK, perfectly legit...

how do you make tracks?
i mean what equipment do you use?

(my freind is a elctronic composer so i know a bit about it)

Posted by E.Sv on Oct-13-2001 12:07:

Why not?
i am using burned cds very often (but I live in Russia). There is no problem if the track source is legal

Posted by Superscope on Oct-13-2001 15:15:

2 tall i use whatever i find.I just hunt down as many programs as i can from ftps etc etc and play around.
I mainly use:
Cubase vst
Reason
Fruityloops (Fun program)
Vaz modular (Can get some nice synths from there)

And my hardware setup is:
Roland jp-8000 keyboard
Akai s6000 sampler

And im thinkin about getting a novation bass and drum station.

Posted by Dj-2TaLL on Oct-13-2001 17:57:

thats cool...

and what DJ equip do you have?

Posted by Max2LC on Oct-19-2001 02:50:

Arrow

I had the same question for a while now...
I got like 20 CD's burned allready.....

IF THERE WOULD BE A WAY I COULD LEGALIZE THEM.....I WOULD
but I don't feel like buying an album for every single song that I have on those CD's....cause all the songs on CD are random, no same artist basicly.

And I did spin at House Parties, Underground Raves.....

both of them didn't give a fuck as long as the music was nice. I don't know how I can make it to the club with those burned CD's

i would legelize them too if i could...
but i rather just move on to VINYL...
thats what i plan to do.

the anoying part is getting all the songs again...
just like staring from scratch...

Posted by Fundamental on Oct-19-2001 15:29:

I have to admit that I've played tunes from burned CD's...

I won't do it if I don't have to though...

Read This!

The chances are, that if u want to play *brand* new music at a party, it's gonna be a kind of bootleg track. Until it is officially released (on an album OR single release), you are unable to actually buy the owners copyright, making it theoretically illegal anyway.

The exception to this is a white label, which has been made for publicity by the artist / record company, and can be shared around and played as long as you dont charge anyone for hearing it!

Basically, if ure playing a set with CDs, MP3s, Vinyl or any other format which you havent payed for, or been given by a record company - its not legal.

Mind you, in saying that, I've never been caught - and I'm not gonna stop playing EVER

Keep It up

Posted by Kurve on Nov-06-2001 10:15:

all those legal questions is BS...they arnt enforced at all....i know few club residents some in miami some in vegas some in europe..and many use Burned cds when they dj...and nothing is ever said ....and also did u know the vinyl u buy is illegal to play live anyway....when u read the fine print says Unauthorized Copying, reproduction, hiring, lending, public performance ,and Broadcasting of the recorded work is prohibited.....so pretty much meanes its all agaist the law just for ur own use...any record u play.....unless u get permission from this label ....but u dont see them enforcing these laws on these djs playing this stuff live.....the reason is i think is that these laws are just there incase something happens for the benifit of the label and producer..... other then that they dont give a shit ....
