Sneaker Pimp re: Dj equipment advice

Ok well i finally almost have enough cash to buy most of teh gear i think i want. so the reason for this post is to get some input before i go a blow all that cash. Here is what I am looking at getting

2 - Technics 1200 M3D's
1 - Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk2
1 - Pioneer Djm-600 or 1 - Berhinger Djx700

So if anyone has any input on these choices, or alternates that you feel are better and have reasons for that opinion id love to hear them. As well you can see im chooseing 2 tables and 1 Cdj, if you have any input on that setup id love to hear that as well. thanks.

Looks like a great setup to me. Large price difference between the DJM and the DJX though. One CD deck seems to suit a lot of people fine, especially those who mostly use vinyl, but I prefer to have 2 even though I am mainly a vinyl DJ as well. I just like having the option to mix two CDs or two vinyls or the combination of both. Anyways, I think you will have a setup you can be proud of with that list above....

Posted by Tiger777 on Oct-21-2004 14:26:

stay away from the behringer DJX700. Also, look for alternatives for the DJM... There are better mixers in higher price ranges than the DJM.
CDJ1000's and M3D's are the best things you can get in their class.

Posted by djxtension on Oct-21-2004 14:47:

Great setup all together.

But please forget about the Behringer, and save up for the DJM-600.

If you have to choose (and you have, because you can't buy both of them...), choose the DJM instead of the DJX700.

I think the DJX700 is a bit out of place between all this quality equipment, the DJM fits in a lot better. But hey, that's just me.

Sneaker Pimp re: setup

Any particular reasons to stay away from the DJX-700, as for other mixers in a higher price range than the DJM, i cant afford, the x62 and x92 are sick, but way beyond my budget. this setup i listed is right on the edge and i havent bought any vinyl yet.

another question i have is, Does anyone know of any new CDJ's coming out or anything new that is in the works worth waiting for. or should i just go ahead with the setup i listed and start learning?

thanks for your input and i hope to get more.

Well, the DJM600 is just higher quality. That should be an important reason.

And about the CDJ's: I don't think there are any new models planned, but you might try the Denon S-3000. I've read a lot of good stuf about these decks, and they are cheaper than the cdj-1000's, leaving room for a different mixer maybe.

Well said.

If my calculations are correct you would save about 148 (approx. $240) if you got a Xone:62 and a Denon DNS3000 instead of the DJM-600 and the CDJ-1000MKII.

Depends on what you want, but I'd definately go for the A&H/Denon approach in this case... If I only had the money

Posted by Exodus17 on Oct-21-2004 16:19:

the DJX700 is cheaper but so is the quality of the unit, most of the spiffy things that stand out on that mixer will more than likely either die out on you or not work the way you think/want/need them to

Posted by Tiger777 on Oct-21-2004 16:28:

The quality of the DJX700 is very low. The faders are cheap and the effect unit is useless. The faders tend to leak very quick. The sound quality is poor. You don't even get what you pay for with this mixer.

Why not get a Xone 32?

please don't put these two together as alternatives, they just arn't

the djx700 is a cheap attempt at a djm600, and doesn't even come close in practise.

definitely have a look at the denon s3000 cd decks, then see if you can afford an ecler nuo5

Hmm interesting. can you give me a little more input on those alternate devices vs teh DJM and CDJ. i guess what benefits there on with that mixer and cdplayer vs the pioneer stuff? thanks again guys and gals

Posted by Wraith on Oct-21-2004 16:41:

Two alternates I'd put up for a DJM-600 are the Ecler Nuo5 and the Denon DN-X1500. The DJX700 is hardly an alternate. That would be like me looking at purchasing a car and saying I'll most likely be buying either a C6 Corvette or a Gremlin. They aren't anywhere near each other when you class equipment.

Ok, well you have all given me some good insight and further research to do. my next question is.

Can you provide me with places that you recommend to purchase, stores or websites, obviously the cheaper the better.

thanks again.

great setup, but like its already been said, there are alot better options to the djm600. I'd look at dnx1500, or nuo5. If youre not worried about effects, look into rane, or allen and heath.

As far as stores go, long and mcquade seems to be the best bet in canada. If you buy from the states, the shipping, and customs adds up. Also it can void the warantee.

Oh yeah, and if i were you, i would look into what djxtension said, and spend the money you save on the cdj on an allen and heath, or vestax with an external effects unit.

Ok ill check out that idea of the allen and heath, as for location i dont really care, im a student with tight cash, i really just want the cheapest price, and i got a few friedns in the US that i can ship stuff to.

Posted by djxtension on Oct-22-2004 17:53:

Here's a list of alternatives for the DJM-600:

- Ecler Nuo 5
- Denon X-1500
- Allen & Heath Xone

All of the above (including the Pioneer DJM-600) are quality mixers.

Just look at 'value-for-money'; what features do you get, and what features do you need?

My mixer has absolutely no special features (like FX, samplers, etc..) at all, but is built like a tank. It was expensive, but I know it will probably last longer than me.

i use mkII's and a DJM-600. I've loaned my equipment out for parties and still no comlpaints about either

I just came back from a club where I was DJing. It was my first time mixing using Berhinger DJX700. I have DJM-600 at home, I have mixed on all kinds of mixers at clubs, and I must say that the DJX700 is the WORST MIXER I HAVE EVER USED! The faders only start working almost only starting half way up, the EQs have almost no effect, the effects are useless, the UV meters are not even close to being correct, the sound quality is shitty, etc... Don't waste your money on this shitty mixer. I would rather play on a cheapest Pioneer mixer then this crap.
For almost 3 years that I've owned my DJM-600, it has been awesome. I am not planning on upgrading until Pioneer comes up with a newer model or Rane starts producing 4 Channel 12" mixers with effects built in. (Yes, I like the effects, and I don't want to carry an extra FX unit with me that I have to setup every freaking time).

Thanks man thats the kind of advice i like to hear.

xone 62 is just $100 more than the djm600

oh...also..

I think behringer has seen peoples comments towards the DJX700 & have upgraded it and fixed it a bit. I have my DJX700 here and sound quality is perfect. The EFX Are quite shit but the faders & crossfaders and EQ seem to be fine. I've tested the djm600 many times and there isn't really much difference to me
